Grace Notes by Philip Yancey: A Review
Throughout the last few years I have had the opportunity to read several of Philip Yancey's books. Yancey writes with a very deep and introspective method causing me to reflect on my life. As I reflect on his writings and how I can implement his ideas in my life, I continue to be amazed.
I was generously sent "Grace Notes: Daily Readings with Philip Yancey" from Zondervan Publishers recently and have spent the last couple weeks using this daily devotional book. Once again, I was not disappointed.
Grace Notes collects 366 powerful daily readings from Philip Yancey’s writings, including some never before published. These most popular and enduring works communicate Yancey’s understanding of God, the world, and faith. The readings especially touch doubters, sufferers, the disillusioned, and out-of-the-mold believers.
Philip Yancey’s name is on virtually every Christian’s list of favorite authors. He’s written twelve Gold Medallion Award-winning books and received two ECPA Book of the Year awards. Four of his books have sold over a million copies each. Readers who know his work well, and those who would like to discover this extraordinary author, will relish this collection of 366 daily readings from Yancey’s honest, vibrant, and down-to-earth writings.
In the tradition of the collected readings of Frederick Buechner, C. S. Lewis, and Eugene Peterson, Grace Notes presents the best of Yancey’s writings about his understanding of God, the world, and faith. Readers will embark on an adventure to rediscover God through the wonders of nature, music, and romantic love. And they’ll explore such subjects as understanding grace, living in God’s love, understanding Jesus, renewing the practice of prayer, and finding God in unexpected places. Yancey’s honesty especially appeals to doubters, sufferers, the disillusioned, and those seeking a break-the-mold relationship with God.
Grace Notes is destined to be a perennial classic and a favorite gift for all occasions.
Here is a sample of the book, "Grace Notes: Daily Readings with Philip Yancey
The one thing that I loved about this book is that it contains a great combination of many of Yancey's writing. If you have never read his books this is a great introduction of his work. It includes devotions based on 16 of his books, as well as other writings he has either published or not.
He touches on all emotions and topics. He makes us think when we don't want to necessarily go to that place, or think in that way.
Grace Notes would be a great gift for a loved one, and for yourself. Grace notes will be released in October 2009 and be purchased at Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, and at ChristianBook.com. It is also available for purchase directly from Zondervan.ca
