Advent Conspiracy Book Review

About The Book:

Worship More, Spend Less, Give Presence, Love All

Are you tired of how consumerism has stolen the soul of Christmas? This year, take a stand! Join the groundswell of Christ-followers who are choosing to make Christmas what it should be—a joyous celebration of Jesus’ birth that enriches our hearts and the world around us, not a retail circus that depletes our pocketbooks and defeats our spirits.

Advent Conspiracy shows you how to substitute consumption with compassion by practicing four simple but powerful, countercultural concepts: Worship Fully—because Christmas begins and ends with Jesus! Spend Less—and free your resources for things that truly matter. Give More—of your presence: your hands, your words, your time, your heart. Love All—the poor, the forgotten, the marginalized, and the sick in ways that make a difference.

Find out how to have a Christmas worth remembering, not dreading. Christmas can still change the world when you, like Jesus, give what matters most—your presence.

My Review:

I am a HUGE fan of this book, as well as the movement behind it. I am a firm believer that Christmas has become nothing but consumerism. And I believe that this needs to change. I am so thankful that the four pastors that developed the Advent Conspiracy a couple of years ago did so. It has changed so many lives. Churches all over the world have entered the story of Advent Conspiracy and in turn, have helped many people in third world countries get the life saving gift of clean water. In fact, the church that I attend here in Canada participated last year and as a church, raised $90,000 for The Water School. WOW!

In the book, Advent Conspiracy, the reader is given a brief history of the movement, as well as a ton of ideas and examples of what the reader can do to worship full, spend less, give more, and love all! I highly recommend this book to all who want to live a Christmas the way its supposed to be.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book

"When God's people serve the poor in humble, generous ways, the story of Jesus is told again and again. The poor in our world will be touched by God through how we choose to celebrate Christmas."

I especially want to live this quote:   "We don't go into debt to celebrate the birth of Jesus."
