The Unfinished Gift Book Review

As the Christmas season is now upon us, I have begun reading novels that incorporate this wonderful season.
I love the messages that many of these books present, stories of forgiveness, grace, mercy, love and faithfulness.

One book I have recently been introduced to is The Unfinished Gift by Dan Walsh. Thank you to Baker House/Revell for sending me a complimentary copy of this book for the purpose of review.

About The Book:

Debut novelist Dan Walsh touches hearts this holiday season with The Unfinished Gift, a story about forgiveness, redemption and a love that prevails over every hardship. After reading this touching tale, bestselling author Terri Blackstock said, “Make sure you have a tissue nearby, because you’re going to need it!”

The Unfinished Gift begins a week before Christmas in 1943, and readers meet Patrick Collins, a seven-year-old boy who has been thrust into a heartwrenching situation: His mother has just died in a car accident and the Army cannot find his father, a bomber pilot off at war. Armed with only the memories his mother taught him before she died about life and faith, Patrick has nowhere else to turn but to live with his grandfather whom he has never met.

As he struggles with his grief and tries to adjust to his new life, there are only three requests on Patrick’s Christmas list this year: He wants the army to find his father. He wants to leave his grandfather’s house. And, for reasons even he doesn’t understand, he wants the toy soldier that’s tucked away in his grandfather’s attic.

In an engaging, captivating style, Walsh reminds us of the surprising things that can leave a life-changing impact—like a young boy’s prayers, a shoebox full of love letters, and even an old wooden soldier, long forgotten.

About The Author:

Dan Walsh is the senior pastor of Sovereign Grace Church in Daytona Beach, Florida, a church he helped found 23 years ago. Walsh lives with his family in the Daytona Beach area. This is his first novel.

My Review:

WOW! This book was a perfect mix of an easy to read/quick read, with a wonderful, underlying message of  forgiveness. What a wonderful debut novel from Dan Walsh.

It was a powerful reminder about how fleeting life can be and how quick life can change. I was reminded that I have to let go of harboured feelings of unforgiveness in order to really live my life to the fullest.

With believable characters and dialogue, the book flowed nicely and was written in such a way that my interest was kept throughout. I was so enthralled with this book, that I read it in one sitting!!!

Thank you Mr. Walsh for showing me such a powerful life lesson through your novel. I did cry and guarantee you will too! Make sure you have a stash of tissues close by when you read this book!!!

FYI: There will be a sequel to this book, entitled "The Homecoming" available in June 2010 and I will definitely be wanting to read that for sure!!!
