Safix Coconut Coir Fiber Scrub Pad - A Review

During the last three years I have been trying to be more eco-friendly in my home. Whether it's recycling, cleaning products or bath/body products, I am a big advocate of being as natural as possible. Especially with cleaning products.

I used to think that in order for something to be clean, you had to smell the "clean". After doing research on the various chemicals found in cleaning products, I have realized that there are many dangers in the products you can find in your local grocery store. I discovered that even though I am not directly ingesting these products, I am still will be affected by the chemicals and ingredients from them. That is why I use as natural as possible, and am always looking for new "natural" or eco-friendly products to use.

BuySoapNuts.com generously sent me the Safix Coconut Coir Fiber Scrub Pad and I LOVE IT!!!

I love that the Scrub Pad can be used for a variety of cleaning projects....dishes, pots, cleaning counters, even on the bathroom fixtures!

Here are some more benefits of using Safix Coconut Coir Fiber Scrub Pad:

There are a ton of great benefits to using this coconut fiber scrub pad...

* It's made from 100% coconut fiber bound together by a non-toxic adhesive
* It will last for months & can be composted when its time:)
* It easily removes baked on, burnt and stubborn grease from your dishes
* You will actually use less detergent
* The pad will not develop a foul odor - ever - and is VERY hygienic
* Every scrub pad is biodegradable and can be composted
* It will never scratch your dishes (even my non-stick cookware is safe! I love that)

One of the things I love the most about the scrub pad is that is does not STINK! I have found products in the past that work okay, but man do they have a foul stink even after one use. This product DOES NOT STINK! Love that:)

The only downfall that I have found is that I do have scrub a little harder, for those tough jobs, then I would with other scrubber products I have used in the past. However, I definitely believe that all the benefits of this product far outweigh the disadvantages:)

You can purchase the Safix Coconut Coir Fiber Scrub Pad here at BuySoapNuts.com!

The Power of Soap Nuts - A Review

Over the last couple of years, I have tried to make my lifestyle more eco-friendly. I have done this through non-toxic bath and body supplies, "green" cleaning supplies and just recently, introducing more organic foods in my meal preparation.

I have used a number of eco-friendly, natural cleaning products over the last two & a half years, but recently discovered a product called Soap Nuts. I had never heard of them until recently when I read about them on a friend's blog. Now after researching them, I was intrigued to say the least.

As much as I love the idea of being environmentally friendly in my cleaning products, I am often skeptical until I can try out the product myself. I guess this is because I have had the mindset that you need to have chemicals in products for them to really clean. Nothing could be further than the truth, and Buy Soap Nuts proves that!

Buy Soap Nuts generously sent me a 500g bag of Soap Nuts. I was so excited when I got them. I had purposely held off doing laundry because I knew the Soap Nuts were coming:) I was not disappointed.

I had a lot of questions about how to use them, effectiveness, etc and the website is full of wonderful information! You can check out the FAQ section here.

Soap Nuts are VERY easy to use.... Pop 3-4 soap nuts into one of the small cotton bags - the 500g bag of Soap Nuts comes with 3 muslin bags, and are also available on the website. Tie and toss into the washer; add clothes and water. Each of these bags of soap nuts can be reused for 4-5 loads, then can be disposed of in your compost pile. The Soap Nuts turn mushy and gray when they need to be replaced.

A second option, is to make liquid soap nuts laundry detergent outlined on her site. You can also use the liquid in the dishwasher, which I did do and the dishes turned out wonderfully clean. You do need to rinse off dishes before loading the dishwasher, but this is just a minor inconvenience. You can even add a little vinegar to your rinse agent dispenser and it makes your dishes just sparkle!

BuySoapNuts.com has a ton of resources about how to use the soap nuts in a variety of ways! Check them out here.

BuySoapNuts.com has a ton of great information on how to use soap nuts in your life, from cleaning the house to cleaning your teeth! I had no idea what these little things could do! I am so glad to have discovered the power of soap nuts!!!!

Fun, Green, Educational Music for Children - Is It Out There? - Bobs & Lolo Review

After working in the field of Early Childhood Education for over 10 years, and having two young children, I have heard my share of children's music. Frankly, most of it I could do without. I have heard the Alphabet Song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star more times than I can count. And I do not particularly like the idea of the "new" music for kids - remaking adult songs with children's voices. I just don't quite understand that whole concept.

When I look for music for my children and the children I work with, I like to look for fun, educational music. That is, I want my children and other children to learn something from the music. Whether its a new language, or safety rules, or eco-friendly songs. I know that they will eventually be walking around the house or class singing the songs from memory, so I want to be able to hear great lyrics.

There are several artists and groups out there that provide the type of music I am looking for. Bobs & Lolo are one of these artists.

Robyn Hardy (Bobs) and Lorraine Pond (Lolo) debuted as Bobs and Lolo in 2003 and have been entertaining children ever since. The fact that they both have extensive education backgrounds, and love for children is evident in their fun, engaging and educational music. Bobs and Lolo grew up on Vancouver Island and their love for nature and teaching children to love themselves, their neighbors and the planet is seen in their music. You can check out the Bobs and Lolo music and lyrics on their website.

Bobs and Lolo sent me a sample DVD of their most recent endeavor, a DVD compilation called On Your Feet. It has 10 music videos of songs from their 2006 CD Musical Adventures and the 2004 Sea Notes CD.

I received this DVD in the mail yesterday, and it has been viewed 4 times today! My daughters are almost 3 years and 14 months of age, and I am amazed at the way it holds their attention. Today I also had 4 other children in my care (I run a home daycare) and for the entire length of the DVD, all the children (even the 14 month old) jumped and danced around the room! They especially loved Raindrop Pop, and you can watch it now:

One of my favorite videsos on the DVD, On Your Feet, is Recycle With Me, seen here:

I love that it teaches children how to take care of the earth. Young children can even understand this concept. My daughter already catches me when I forget and try to throw away something that should be recycled. Yes, I had already taught her about recycling but the song "Recycle with Me" is a great reinforcement!

Not only can Bobs and Lolo be heard on CD and seen on DVD, they can also be seen live! Their website has a calander that shows all their upcoming appearances. During 2008 and 2009, Bobs and Lolo were seen by many children around Canada and the US at Children's Festivals, The Calgary Stampede, The Pacific National Exhibition, The Vancouver Aquarium and many other places!

If you are a parent of a preschool child, and you live in Canada, chances are you have heard of Treehouse TV (I know its a staple in my house). As of February 2009, Bobs and Lolo can be seen on Treehouse. Their videos are seen between exsisting shows...keep your eyes out!

To purchase Bobs & Lolo music or the DVD, click here for a list of online stores, retailers and music downloads.

One of the things that I especially like about the shirt from Bold4HIm is that it is 100% cotton, so super soft. Also, it is a longer style shirt so I do not have to worry that it rides up or shows anything I don't want it to.

Time Out Thursday

I just found out about Theta Mom's Time Out Thursday's. What a great idea...so I am joining! Why don't you join me:

I did my time out on Wednesday and actually it will happen every Wednesday. I went to my church's ladies evening Bible Study. I am gone for about 2.5 hours and it is great to connect with about 15-20 other women and study the Bible. We are working through the study: Anointed, Transformed, Redeemed by Beth Moore, Phyllis Shirer, and Kay Arthur! It is a study on the life of David, who is one of my favorite Bible Characters.

I look forward to this night out, not only because its time away from my kids for a bit, but also because its a renewing time for me spiritually. It gives me the fuel I need to keep myself focused on God and what He wants for me.

Another way I had a time out this week was to take about and hour and a half and do some scrapbooking. I love to do it but just doing seem to ever have the time. If you want to see some of my work, check it out here

Thanks for joining me in my Time Out Thursday!

What are you doing for your's:)

Blush Topless Undershirts - A Review

Do you have a problem with your shirts being too short and your stomache and other body parts hanging out when you move around:) I know I do and a few months ago I was able to purchase three Blush Undershirts and I have to say, I love them!

Blush Topless Undershirts were developed by two women who were trying to find a product that would help them deal with their shirts being too short! Blush Topless Undershirts are great because you can layer and be covered without bulk (I love this feature so much!) They are designed in such a way that they can even be used during pregnancy, enabling mom-to-be to wear "normal" tops longer!

I love the way they fit, and because they are a combo of poly/rayon/spandex there is a great deal of give, and they do not shrink. There is a great variety of colors, as well as three patterns and two colors with a lace accent.

I own a purple, blue and pink Blush and wear them with just about every top I own. I like that I can add color to my outfits without bulk and it even helps with "muffin top" (lol).

Check out this video clip about Blush:

Blush Topless Undershirts can be purchased directly from the website, as well on the website there is a list of U.S. retailers. The solid color Blush Topless Undershirts retail for $15 USD and the patterned ones retail for $20USD.

Check them out here.

Modesty Part 2

So yesterday I wrote about how I was trying to find an alternative to Barbie or Bratz dolls for my two young daughter's because I want them to have dolls that incorporate the sense of modesty we, as parents want to instill to them.

Yesterday, I had a number of responses to my blog entry, thank you to all who have given a response. It was great to hear from my readers.

Throughout my teen years and adult years I have struggled with weight issues, and have always been a little jealous of "the girls out there" who could dress in any style of clothing and look good all the time. Only in the last several years have I realized that I do not have to, nor do I want to, wear itsy bitsy clothing, and too tight clothing to look attractive. I am still not 100% comfortable with my body (still trying to lose weight) but I am finally finding out what I can wear and wear well.

That said, I did some internet searching last night and this morning and discovered many company's that design and produce modesty wear. I have to admit, when I first heard the term, modesty wear, I automatically thought frumpy, non-sexy clothing but wow, I was wrong. Yes, some of the modesty wear out there is very plain and not items I would choose to wear. However, there are several that carry very cute, sexy, yet modest clothing. As far as clothing for young girls and teens, I certainly do not want my pre-school daughter to look sexy, and a number of companies carry super cute shirts, dresses, pants and swimwear that is adorable!

Here is a list of only a few websites I found in my search. I know there a many more, so here is what I would love to hear from my readers: do you know of other modesty wear websites, or company's that have cute, attractive clothing for women, teens and children? What are your thoughts on dressing modest?

Here is my list:

Modest Clothing for Christians

Funky Frum

Upstream Girl

Christa Taylor

I noticed that on a number of these sites, the prices can be a little steep, however I know that when you shop at stores like Wal-Mart, The Children's Place, Zellers, etc you can also find modest looking clothes too. The above sites are company's that offer strictly modest clothing, whereas the other companies I just mentioned do not. As well, many of the specialized modesty wear company's have a religious base in the mission statements, etc. Not always, but often.

I look forward to your thoughts :)

A New Approach to Modesty

Ever since being blessed with little girls, I have often thought about how I will teach my daughter's about being modest. Not only in the way they dress, but how they speak, and act as well! I have already started making sure the girls wear clothes that cover their bodies up, no bellies showing, etc. However, I have noticed even the little girl clothing is just a miniature version of what some women wear. I just don't understand this. Why does society believe it is okay for girls as young a three years of age to dress like an adult woman. This is so not what I want to teach my children.

I have already begun instilling in my children that it is okay to dress modestly, and that they are beautiful inside and out. However, another problem that I have come across is toys. Especially dolls, such as Barbie and Bratz. They do not teach young girls modesty at all. This is very sad to me. I remember growing up with dolls such as Barbie and having a great time with them. Yet I am very hesistant to purchase such toys for my girls because I do not believe they teach girls a healthy body image or modesty.

That said I have been on the lookout for dolls and other toys that teach girls modesty, healthy self esteem and that they are valuable no matter what they do, how they are dressed or what they look like physically. I firmly believe the inside is what matters most, especially to God. I am raising my children in a home that is filled with God. Therefore I want their playthings to also represent our faith in some aspects. I recently came across two dolls that I cannot wait to purchase in the near future: Karito Dolls and Only Hearts Club Dolls

The Karito Kids Dolls are comprised of seven different dolls, each representing a different culture and country from around the world. They each come dressed in a fun, modest outfit. As well, each doll comes with a hard cover book about her adventures in her home country. Another great benefit of these dolls is they come with a special code to activate them on the Karito Kids website, and in the process you can choose to support charities around the world that help less fortunate kids, and learn about different cultures through playing online games too. These dolls are not cheap, costing $99. You can check them out here.

The Only Hearts Club dolls are a wonderful way to instill positive self esteem in young girls, while letting their imaginations soar. This is a direct quote from the website regarding the dolls:

The Only Hearts Club™, the perfect combination of beautiful dolls and hip accessories that are fun and cool and that girls love to play with, while at the same time providing a positive image and message that parents and grandparents want their girls to see and hear.

There are several Only Hearts Club dolls, all different cultures and styles. Each has a name and individual personality and interests. They are real dolls for real girls, as the website states. There are also Only Hearts Club books that detail the girls adventures! In each story, one of the girls has a dilema and throughout the book, discovers how to do the right thing. What a wonderful message for young girls to learn!

Young girls can even join the Only Hearts Club online and get some great goodies!

You can check out the Only Hearts Club Dolls here.

I would love to know what other ideas you have to instill modesty and right choices in the girls in your life! Leave a comment with your thoughts!

25 Days, 26 Days - A Book Review

As a reviewer for Zondervan Publishers, I was sent a copy of 25 Days, 26 Ways To Make This Your Best Christmas Ever by bestselling author, Ace Collins.

Book Description(from Zondervan website):

It should be the most anticipated day of the year. Instead, we dread the shopping, baking, spending, and stress. Bestselling author Ace Collins wants to help you rediscover the joy and peace of the holiday season. Discover how this Christmas can be the happy, joy-filled celebration you’ve always dreamed of!

Description:
It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas. Finding the perfect gift. Maxing out the credit cards—again. Endless baking. Surely there is more to Christmas than this.

Bestselling author Ace Collins wants to help you make this Christmas your best holiday ever! As he blends fascinating stories from history and spiritual truths about the holiday season, he gently guides you toward a new way of thinking about Christmas.

As you explore Collins’ twenty-six easy ways to revolutionize your Christmas expectations, you’ll feel yourself relax. You’ll begin to recapture the joy and magic of the season and to remember the reason we celebrate. Step by step, you’ll make small changes in your attitude toward Christmas that will yield big results.

Each upbeat chapter contains easy to apply ideas, from making the most of long lines and traffic jams, to discovering the deeper meaning behind common Christmas symbols. Simple tasks like mailing Christmas cards or holiday shopping that once seemed like dreaded chores will become easier and worthwhile. Collins adeptly shows how to navigate the stressors that threaten to derail the joy of the season. You’ll rediscover Christmas as it was meant to be.

Holiday happiness is attainable with this timely and wise book. Reading this partly devotional, partly practical, and always thoughtful book, you are only twenty-five days and twenty-six ways away from your best Christmas ever!

As someone who loves Christmas, even I thought it was a little too early to read about Christmas, but 25 Days, 26 Ways by Ace Collins was a refreshing book. At only 192 pages, it is a quick read, but full of wonderful information.

25 Days, 26 Ways is set up in such a way that you can use it as a devotional for the month of December or read it through in your own timing. Each chapter is about a specific holiday tradition, such as the Christmas Tree or the story behind the 12 days of Christmas. Collins then gives a historical background about the chapter subject. He then gives the reader ways to modernize the tradition.

I love how easy this book is to read, as well as how simple the ideas are to incorporate into our daily lives. I know that I, for one, have already started a list of things that I would like start this year for new family traditions.

Below is a sample of 25 Days, 26 Ways To Make This Your Best Christmas Ever:

Hammer Away with Discovery Toys!

About a year ago I became an independent consultant with Discovery Toys here in Canada. I had seen many of the company's toys over the last 10 years that I had worked in the field of Early Childhood Education, and thought they were a fantastic product.

Once I had my children, I figured that joining Discovery Toys would be a great way to make a little extra income and get great toys for my kids! I was not disappointed. Though the extra income has been nice (albeit, I think I have bought more toys than made money!)it's been the toys that have been the key in my home.

Discovery Toys carries many wonderful toys, but there have been several that have really impressed me. One being the toy called, Hammer Away!

Hammer Away is designed for children 19 months and up. However, my 14 month old loves to hammer the balls into the holes and watch them come out the bottom.

When I received this product in my starter kit my oldest daughter was about 22 months old. I took Hammer Away out of the box and she proceeded to play with it for almost two hours. Yes, you read right...two hours! I figured any toy that keeps a toddler's attention that long is well worth the price of $35.00

According to the Discovery Toys training materials for Hammer Away, the following are the objectives of using this product:

• Enjoy imaginative play;
• Strengthen fine and gross motor coordination;
• Experience cause and effect and object
permanence, with balls disappearing and
reappearing on the track;
• Identify and match colors;
• Develop critical thinking skills;
• Release energy in a positive way;
• Can first use your hands to push the balls through
and then as you develop, use the hammer;
• Distinguishing blue from purple ball helps refine
color differentiation!

My oldest is now just shy of three years and still plays with Hammer Away on a regular basis, only now she has to battle with her little sister for a turn!

I highly recommend this product to all those with young children, particularly a child who needs to get out some aggression:)

This product can be purchased through the Discovery Toys website, as well as directly through myself.

Big News!!!!

Karen Kingsbury is releasing "Miracles" on November 5, 2009 and I will be doing a review of the book soon....

TV for Preschoolers

So there has recently been a few research studies and websites that show too much television viewing for young children is not developmentally appropriate and can cause excessive aggression:

1. How TV Affects Your Child

2. LimitTV

However, I do believe that there are a few very good quality shows on the air for child viewing, particularly preschool children. These are just 2 of several that my girls and I enjoy. We watch shows exclusively on Treehouse TV (in Canada) and PBSKids.

1.Super Why

I really enjoy this show. It is designed for children ages 3-7, but my daughter (not 3 until October) loves this show. It's an interactive reading problem that has really cute characters.

The Storybrook Village is the home of your child's favorite fairytale characters. Immediately, you'll meet the four best friends who anchor each episode: Red, from Little Red Riding Hood; Pig from The Three Little Pigs, Princess from The Princess and The Pea, and Whyatt, the curious younger brother of Jack from Jack and The Beanstalk who discovers he has the power to fly inside books to find answers to his questions. Each of these characters is re-imagined as an everyday kid, not unlike your child's own friends: Red rides roller blades; Pig drives a trike; Princess loves tea parties and dress-up; and Whyatt is the group's natural leader.

I love how the show teaches children how to solve problems while teaching literary skills. The music is catchy and I do not think that this show is cheesy in anyway. The show teaches letter sounds, recognition, pre-reading and early reading skills. Actually my daugther has learned to recognize five letters already, from simply viewing Super Why. I also like that the program is short...only 30 minutes, which is perfect for the short attention span of many preschoolers, including mine.

Not only is the television program worth it, but the SuperWhy website is amazing. It is full of wonderful games and activities for children to do independently and with adult help. There is also a wonderful section for parents and teachers to get activities and lesson plans to do with individual children or small groups.

2. Sid The Science Kid

If your preschool child is anything like mine, then they love exploring and learning new things, doing messy play and learning about the world around them. Sid The Science Kid is the television program for you. It is designed for children ages 3-7 and explores the world of science in a fun and educational, but not boring way! My daughter loves the music, the characters and the activities they do. In fact we have gone on the website to try out some of the activities they offer. The website for Sid The Science Kid has games, videos and science experiments for all children to explore. Check it out here.

The parent and teacher section for Sid the Science Kid is amazing. It is full of great activities to do with your child. Your child will learn about distance, weight, measurement, the senses, weather, seasons, health, germs, exercise and movement and sound. AMAZING! Though some of the activities were a little old for my 2.5 year old when we started watching....we easily modified the activities and I can't wait to try out more with her as she is now just shy of 3.

Other shows that we will occassionally watch in our home are:

1. Dora The Explorer
2. Blue's Clue's
3. Diego
4. Veggie Tales
5. Sesame Street

I know there are many television shows out there for children, but I prefer ones that teach concepts and new ideas in a fun way. Like I said these are just a few of the great ones out there!

What are shows you enjoying watching with your children and why?

For You Scrapbooker's Out There!

I have been scrapbooking for about 10 years and have used a number of really cool tools, but the Cricut Expressions tops them all!

I had the opportunity to try out a Cricut Expressions at a scrapbooking retreat back in June and just had to tell everyone in the blogging world about my experience. WOW, WOW, WOW! It has changed the way I do scrapbooking forever!

This is how the Cricut website describes it:

"The Cricut Expression® is a much larger unit than the Cricut Create® or the Cricut Personal Electronic Cutter®, meant to stay on a work table or in a media room. The good thing is that all Cricut® models use the same cartridges and the same blade housings and blades.

The Cricut Expression® is a way to cut letters, shapes, and phrases in impressive sizes using the 12" x 24" mat or the 12" x 12" mat. The possibilities are endless with this larger machine, allowing you to create bigger die cuts for classroom decor, scrapbook layouts, signage, and so much more.

* Mix and match creative features in the same cut
* Use the entire library of existing Cricut cartridges
* Cut in portrait or landscape
* Mat sizes 12" x 12" or 12" x 24"
* No computer necessary
* Change settings such as language and units of measurement
* New LCD screen that shows exactly what you're typing for your next cut

Includes

* Plantin Schoolbook font cartridge
* Accent Essentials shape cartridge (not included with all offers)
* 1 12x12 cutting mat"

The Cricut Personal cutter and Create are smaller versions of the Expressions. I was able to use those as well, but by far am a huge fan of the Expressions.

I found it very easy to use and to switch cartridges back and forth with no problems. After being given a quick overview of the Cricut Expression, I was able to create about 15 Titles for my scrapbook pages.

I have used the following cartridges:

*Lyrical Letters
*Storybook
*Disney Pooh
*Plantin Schoolbook
*Alphalicious
*Jasmine
*George and Basic Shapes

The cartridges, blades, mats and accessories can all be purchased separately as well.

Not only have I used the Expressions 24 inch Cutter for scrapbooking, but also for bulletin board signs and wall decor for my home child care program.

Though the price for the 24 inch Expression is steep, I believe that it is far worth it. I have seen it priced for $379 at Walmart in Canada (only comes with one cartridge versus two at other vendors), with cartridges ranging between $80 and $90 each.

The Cricut Expressions is avaliable at a number of locations. It can be purchased on the Cricut website for $499.99, as well on Amazon.com It is also avaliable at Michael's Arts and Crafts, and Scrapbookers Paradise in Lethbridge, AB Canada.

Called To Worship - A Book Review

As a Book Review Blogger for Thomas Nelson, I was recently sent Called To Worship: The Biblical Foundation of Worship by Vernon M. Whaley to read and review. After reading the book description, my interest was peaked:

Book Description

IS HOW WE WORSHIP TRULY BIBLICAL? There’s only one way to find out: see what the Bible has to say. And that’s exactly what Called to Worship is all about. From Genesis to Revelation, every book in the Scriptures gives instruction and insight into God’s plan for worship. With this book, you’ll learn from Biblical heroes and ordinary people. Compare Old and New Testament practices. Glean insight from Biblical poetry and the Books of Wisdom. And most important, you’ll see how the life of Christ serves as a living guide to worship.

I initially expected Called To Worship to be very academic and text-book. I was pleasantly surprised. It was very easy to read and very easy to understand. I loved how the book showed me how worship occurred throughout the Bible. Whaley even devoted complete chapters of his book to specific books of the Bible! The chapters in Called to Worship were divided up in a very simple manner: Whaley spends the first part of the chapter giving the reader background information on worship practices in the Word. While in the second half of each chapter, Whaley gives the reader principals from the Word for how we can worship where we are at in our life.

Here is a video clip of Vernon M. Whaley speaking about his book, Called To Worship:

Called to Worship: The Biblical Foundation of Worship by Vernon M. Whaley can be purchased through Amazon.ca and Amazon.com

The Big Cook

I have been married for almost 12 years now and my collection of cookbooks continues to grow in leaps and bounds. I think I received about 10 for bridal shower and wedding gifts way back, and I do not see things slowing down. However I believe I have found THE cookbook of all cookbooks!

The Big Cook is not only a cookbook
but a new way to look at freezer cooking!

Freezer cooking (cooking in large amounts and freezing for future use) has been around for a long time, but The Big Cook takes freezer cooking to a whole new level.

The Big Cook was written by Deanna Siemans, Joann Smith, and Lorelei Thomas. Three moms who have busy lives, back in 1997 decided to start freezer cooking together and the concept of The Big Cook was born. All three ladies, and their families, reside in Southern Alberta, Canada.

The idea of doing a "big cook" is to get 4-6 people together and each person prepare a set amount of recipes. At the end of the day of cooking and preparation you will easily prepare up to 200 meals in one day!

I love the recipes in The Big Cook. The book contains recipes for beef, pork and chicken. All very simple to follow and gives ingredient amounts for 1, 4, 6 and 8 meals. I have owned this book since April of 2009 and have made 43 of the 73 recipes. They have all been very good. Very tasty, easy to prepare, and I love the variety of cooking methods (most recipes give you the option of oven, BBQ, or slow cooker). The book also has two sample Big Cooks and grocery lists in the appendix.

The concept of The Big Cook is so simple, I was able to prepare 15 meals in about one hour. I was so amazed at how little time it took. For two weeks all I needed to do was take my meal out of the freezer and pop it in the oven and presto, dinner served! One of my familys favorite Big Cook recipes is the BBQ Beef, which is a sample recipe on The Big Cook website

In Lethbridge, The Big Cook is available at Save-On-Foods and Chapters Bookstore in hardback, coil form. It is also available on The Big Cook website.

Little Tikes SwingAlong Castle - A Review

About a year and a half ago, I was able to get my daugther the Little Tikes SwingAlong Castle. What a great investment. At the time, Makayla was a year and a half and we were looking for a play structure that would be suitable for her age and size. I love play structures, but all the ones we had found were too large or too expensive. Then came Little Tikes to the rescue.

We were fortunate enough to find the SwingAlong Castle second hand, but had I found it in the store I would have bought it new as well. My daugther was actually a little big for the swing when we got it but she still enjoyed it for one summer. She is now almost 3 and still loves using the climbing wall and the slide. Her 14 month old sister is the perfect age for the swing, and thoroughly enjoys the structure as well....its perfect for little ones between 12 and 24 months to grow their large muscle skills. Its not too easy, but gives enough challenges for toddlers that it keeps them occupied for a good time period.

I highly recommend the Little Tikes SwingAlong Castle. It is recommended for children between the ages of 1 and 4, and I agree with this age recommendation, although I think it would be too simple of a structure for a 4 year old.

The Little Tikes SwingAlong Castle is avaliable on the the Little Tikes website for $129.99 USD.

Tassimo - A Review

The Tassimo Beverage System by Braun is one of my favorite new kitchen "toys".

I love my coffee and tea, but I don't drink enough during the day to justify brewing a full pot of coffee. That is why I love the Tassimo Beverage System by Braun. It brews individual cups of coffee and tea using Tassimo Discs, designed specifically for the Tassimo Beverage System by Braun.

There are a number of flavors of coffees, teas, cappuccino, lattes and hot chocolate that are available to order through the website,including Starbucks coffees. The online ordering option was very easy to complete, with a minimum 3 item purchase. Initally, I did not like that I HAD to order three things but my total order was only just over $12.00 with shipping, and I received my products within a week of ordering!

For information sake, I ordered the Tassimo Twinings Green Tea, Tassimo Nabob 100% Columbian, and Tassimo Maxwell House French Vanilla. All three are very good tasting tea and coffee. Because the process online was so simple, I will not hesistate to order online again.

There is also a list of retailers that carry a variety of the T-discs as well. When I checked online which retailers in my area carried the Tassimo Discs, Safeway Canada was the only retailer listed. However, to my pleasant surprise, Save-on-Foods in Lethbridge, AB also carries a small selection of the T-Discs.

When you purchase a Tassimo Beverage System you will receive a form to register your product. Once registered you can receive two complementary sets of their T-Discs. We tried Starbucks House Blend and Maxwell House House Blend. Both were nice tasting, although personally I find Starbucks coffee a bit strong, so I think I had more milk and sugar than coffee:)

Overall, if you prefer making a single cup of coffee to a full pot, the Tassimo Beverage System by Braun is a great investment to make. It is available for purchase at London Drugs online
for Canadians or at Amazon.com for my American readers.

My Favorite Kitchen Small Appliance

Over the last 12 years (almost) that I have been married I have used a ton of different small appliances in my kitchen. Much thanks to the many bridal shower and wedding gifts I received back in 1997.

I have enjoyed most of the items, but to be honest, only in the last few years have I taken a keen interest in cooking and backing. There have been a number of products I have used that I absolutely love and will be sad to one day have to give up or replace, if I can.

The Rival Extra Large Glass Lid Skillet is one of those items.

Six years ago I received this item as a Christmas gift from my grandmother and I can honestly say I LOVE IT! I have used it faithfully since. Actually I use it at least three times a week.

These are the features that are listed on the Rival website:

*
Extra Large 16” x 11” Cooking Surface
*
Fully Immersible with Temperature Probe Removed
*
Removable, Adjustable Temperature Control
*
Black Non-Stick Coating on inside and out
*
Tempered Glass Lid with Adjustable Steam Vent

I love the easy to clean capabilities of this skillet, the fact that it is non stick and can be immersed is great. I remember clearly as a young person doing dishes for my mom how important it was not to get the end of the electic frying pan wet because it would wreck it! With the Rival Extra Large Glass Lid Skillet I don't ever have to worry about it! I have even put it in the dishwasher!

One of my favorite breakfast items to make is pancakes and this skillet makes perfect ones! It has enough room to make 4-6 average sized pancakes. I can also make 4-6 chicken breasts in the skillet with room for sauce, and no spilling occurs because of the deepness of the skillet.

Only now 6 years later am I beginning to notice signs of wearing out, and I am so happy that I can purchase the Rival Extra Large Glass Lid Skillet right from the Rival website.

This skillet has a limited one year warranty and comes with a wonderful user manual filled with great recipes. In the event that it is misplaced, a replacement can be found in the form of PDF on the Rival Extra Large Glass Lid Skillet product page

Loving This Stroller!

So last year after Bella was born, we were given a Joovy Caboose Stroller as a gift. I figure I have used it long enough that I can write a honest review about it. This was not a free product given to me to review, just me want to let other mom's know what I think about this product!

When we discovered we were expecting again, we were looking for a double stroller, since both girls would be too small to walk on their own for long distances. So initially I thought of a double stroller, but felt the size of them was too cumbersome. Then I discovered the http://www.joovy.com/pages/pd_caboose.php! This stroller changed my whole idea about transporting two children.

The stroller allows a younger child to sit up front, or using the universal car seat attachment system you can attach pretty much any infant child carrier to the front. See this compatibility chart to see if your infant carrier will work with the Joovy Caboose. Then your older child has the option to sit or stand in the back. There is a tray on the front for snacks, and also a cup holder. The Joovy website also has several additional products that can be purchased for the Joovy Caboose, such as raincovers, parent organizers and suncovers.

Joovy also carriers a really cool line of doll sized carriers, booster seats and strollers.

Because I do not drive, I rely heavily on the local transit system, and this stroller is very easy to maneuver onto a large city bus without taking up the room that a double stroller would. Yes it is bigger than a regular stroller by not as big and cumbersome as a double. I have really enjoyed this stroller and hope to for a couple more years, as my children are only 13 months and 3 yrs.

There is a good sized basket in the bottom of the stroller for all your needs. I have even been able to go to the corner store a few times and get 4 or 5 bags of groceries in it.

I believe this stroller is well worth the $249.99 ticket price you will pay at Toys R Us in Canada, and have recommended to several of my friends with small children. When we received the Joovy, it was on sale for $179.99, and this price does come up several times a year, so keep your eye out for a deal!
