Kidorable Review & Giveaway!

The Kidorable Story

In 1997, Kidorable sprung from the minds, hearts and efficiency apartment of Liping and Jonathan Domsky. They proclaimed, "The world needs someone to create children's apparel and accessories that are both functional and fun. We can do that."

And so Kidorable was conceived. Starting with lions and cats and bears, oh my, manifested as umbrellas and hangers, Kidorable generated enough sales during its first year to break even and plant fruitful Kidorable seeds throughout the land. The following year sales grew ten fold. Every year since, give or take, a new style and/or product line debuted. And every year, the world joyfully embraced more Kidorable delights, give or take, than the year before.

Children, it turns out, absolutely and unconditionally love Kidorable (almost as much as their parents and other children-loving grown-ups do.)

In its first three years, Kidorable grew from a hopeful startup to a thriving business with $2 million in sales. Ever since, Kidorable has continued to blossom, evolving into a flourishing global enterprise, contributing to the success of dozens of sales professionals and thousands of retailers, with sales projected to exceed $10 million by 2010.

Throughout its first decade, the key to Kidorable's success has been growth. But not growth simply in the financial sense. For the ultimate Kidorable customers - kids - it's all about growing imaginations. For Kidorable's employees, it's all about nurturing personal and professional growth. And for everyone touched by Kidorable, it's about growing smiles. For Kidorable, growing larger is a natural and happy consequence of growing better, individual by individual.

Today Kidorable is a striking presence, not just in stores, but across the vast landscape of the children's apparel and accessories industry. By encouraging personal and professional growth in the service of imagination and smiles, Kidorable's own growth projections continue to soar.

I was generously sent three Kidorable items  from the Ladybug Collection for the purpose of review on this blog!!!

First I was sent the Ladybug Rain Coat. It is absolutely adorable!! My three year was so excited when I showed her the coat. She wanted to wear it everywhere. However, because of the winter season and living in Canada, it is not warm enough to wear only a rain coat:) She was willing to settle on wearing it around the house. It is so nice and bright, has tons of details (ladybug features), easy to clean materials (PVC) and easy to use snaps (perfect for an independent dresser like my daughter). Available in sizes My First (1T), 2T, 3T, 4T, 4/5, 5/6 and 6/6X. All coats now come with a FREE matching Kidorable hanger. My daughter and I both loved the ladybug designed hanger that also comes with the rain coat!!! The Ladybug Rain Coat sells for $36

I also received the Ladybug Rain Boots. These boots are made of natural rubber and I just know my daughter will love to wear these in the spring or even through our winter, when it warms up a little bit. I love the detail on the toes with antennas, eys and spots!!! My daughter put them on right away and walks around the house wearing them!!! These boots are a definite hit and I know we will be doing a ton of puddle jumping in the Spring for sure!!!  All styles are available in My First (size 5), children’s sizes 6-13, plus young adult sizes 1 and 2.   These boots sell for $29.

The final item that I was sent was the Ladybug Umbrella. I cannot wait to see my girls using this umbrella in the Spring!

It is so bright and I love that its not like the typical child size umbrellas. Its so unique. Made of 100% nylon, Kidorable umbrellas are child-sized for those little hands.

The Ladybug Umbrella sells for $13.50

I love that Kidorable has a huge variety of items and themes. For both the little boys and girls in your life. There are an incredible 22 designs for the umbrellas, 16 designs for the raincoats, and 16 designs for the rain boots. Kidorable also carries knit outer wear accessories (hats, mitts and scarves), hangers, t-shirts, backpacks, sun hats and bath towels!

BUY IT!: Head over to the Kidorable website and you can buy these and other wonderful products directly from Kidorable!

Holiday Greetings!!!

I know this is a little late....but I want to wish my readers a very Merry Christmas! I hope and pray that you all have experienced a wonderful holiday season so far, and will continue to do so over the next week as we look to New Years Eve.

I have been away from blogging for the last couple days, as my family has come today for basically two days of get-together's and eating!!! I have enjoyed this time of relaxing, tradition and opening gifts. The wonder in a child's eyes as you read them the Christmas Story, as they see the beauty of Christmas lights and the wonderful look of awe and surprise when they open Christmas gifts is just pure joy!!!! My three year old reminded me on Christmas Eve that "we need to make a birthday cake for Jesus and leave Santa cookies and milk!" So cute!!!

Yesterday, we hosted Christmas Day dinner at our home for the first time since we have been married, and though nervous, it turned out perfectly!!!! After dinner, my girls played with the Rempel cousins, the men watched wrestling:) and us ladies watched hilarious Youtube videos!!!! Fun was had by all!!!

Today in Canada is Boxing Day and we headed out to the In-Laws for a day more more yummy food, and spent a couple hours playing the card game, "Wizard"....its always a blast when myself, my husband and his siblings and dad get together to do this and today was no exception!!!

Though this year has been a good one, with many wonderful memories made due to my two beautiful little girls, there was sadness as well, as I said goodbye to my sister (only 7 years old). However I also experienced the new world of blogging, and book and product reviews.

Thank you to all my regular readers who have not only read my posts, but commented and also entered the wonderful giveaways I have been blessed to host. Thank you to the companies who have sent me great books and products to review and share with you all!

I look forward to all that I will be introduced to next year and look forward to sharing wonderful things with you, my readers!!!!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

About The Author:

Kathryn Cushman is a graduate of Samford University with a degree in pharmacy. After practicing as a pharmacist, she left her career to marry and begin a family and has since pursued her dream of writing. Leaving Yesterday is her third novel. Kathryn and her family currently live in Santa Barbara, California. Visit Kathryn's Web site at www.kathryncushman.com

My Review:

This was a fantastic!!! I read it in about a day!

I know as a mother I would never have to live through a child dealing with a drug addiction and other related situations but I know this is a reality to many mothers out there. Cushman delivers a very realistic portrayl of this family crisis and I love how Cushman showed that through faith in God, we can make it through whatever life crisis comes our way. We were never promised that when we believe in God, our life would be free from struggle, but we are told that God will bring us through the struggle. One thing that really resonated with me is that while there are consequences to sin, we know that there are also rewards for "doing the right thing". Leaving Yesterday is a perfect display of this. This book is very well written and reminiscent of Karen Kingsbury (if you are a Kingsbury fan, you will definitely enjoy Cushman).

I highly recommend this book to all lovers of Christian fiction. I have never read Kathryn Cushman's books before, but I will definitely be on the lookout for more of them to read!!!

TO BUY: Leaving Yesterday can be purchsed directly through its publisher, Bethany House. As well it is available through your local Christian bookseller, Amazon.com and Amazon.ca

The Karma Of Jesus Book Review

About The Book:

The Karma of Jesus follows the tradition of bold Christian communicators who dare to borrow pop=culture-friendly language to communicate sacred truth. It explains the relevance of Christ's life using the idea of karma, which maintains an exacting payback for one's actions. Using personal vignettes, as well as stories from history, popular culture, and the Bible, pastor Mark Herringshaw walks the reader through a progression of thought. Rather than didactic formulas, he presents questions and conjectures that sensitively reveal how Jesus has reaped the ultimate consequences of our actions.

From The Back Cover:

Are you reaping what you've sown? Whether we call it Karma or not, life seems to be based on cause and effect. If we do something good, we expect (or hope) good will return. Do something bad, and bad will result. Indeed, the ancient idea of Karma--reaping what we sow--is recognized in almost every religion in the world. But this principle sets an inescapable trap: If "what comes around goes around," then every small mistake will haunt us to the bitter end. Is that it, though? Is this our destiny? In this provocative book, Mark Herringshaw boldly explores two mutually exclusive visions of life: Karma and grace. Prompted by a chance-conversation with a spiritually curious young man, he gives us a probing look at the implications of Karma and the relevance of Christ's life.

For more information, check out the website, The Karma of Jesus, here!

About The Author:

Mark Herringshaw is a pastor, sought-after teacher, and conference speaker. The coauthor of two previous books, he leverages the crafts of storytelling, biblical scholarship, and scientific research to make complex ideas simple, practical, and transformative. Mark and his family make their home near St. Paul, Minnesota.

My Review:

The Karma of Jesus is a well written book. It is very evident that the author took a lot of time to write it, doing much research along the way. He uses very clear illustrations from his life and from others.

However there is very little scriptural backup for many of the points he makes to show the difference between Karma and Christianity, specifically the Grace of Jesus.

I have to be honest and say that this was not my most favorite book. I was mainly frustrated that the author did not use very much scripture to back up his points. Though there were a lot of illustrations, no major points were made.  That said it was a great was to learn more about the differences and similarities between the concepts of grace and karma.

I would definitely recommend this book to those readers who are seeking more out of life than "karma" because they need to know the truth about God's love for them! The author does a great job in telling the reader that Jesus is our saving grace.

BUY IT: This book can be purchased through your local bookseller. It is also available online through Bethany House Publishers.

Leaning into God When Life Is Pushing You Away - Review & Giveaway

About The Book:

Robert A. Schuller explores the various ways individuals lose or experience interference with their connection to God. He explains that emotions such as shame, regret, fear, and disappointment can stand in the way of the intimate association God wants with His children.
The good news is that when His people are struggling, God stays close. There are many ways to reestablish a dynamic connection with Him. Schuller calls these "Connection Corrections" and leads readers through identifying communication barriers and how to break them. Each chapter delves into the reasons readers fail to connect with God, how to begin repairing the broken wires, and the life-altering benefits of restoring a positive, power-filled relationship with Him. Readers who feel adrift from God will no find that no barrier is too big to keep them from a close, loving relationship with Him.

About The Author:

Robert A. Schuller is the former senior pastor of the Crystal Cathedral. He has written twelve books, including the bestseller Walking in Your Own Shoes. His most recent book, coauthored with Dr. Douglas DiSiena, is entitled Possibility Living. Schuller has four children and resides in Laguna Beach, California, with his wife, Donna.

My Review:

I really enjoyed this book. It was an easy to read book with the reminder that no matter how far away we think we are from God, He loves us and will do anything to draw us back to Him. He loves us that much. At the end of each chapter are reflection questions for the reader to think upon. Many of the questions make one think about "the why" reasons they are coming away from God, instead of leaning into Him, especially during the hard times life throws at us.

One quote from the book that really resonates with me is "take this opportunity to consider your priorities and where God stands among them. The more you choose to make Him the ultimate focus of your life, the deeper and more intimate your relationship with Him will be".

I highly recommend this book to those who need an encouragement in their Christian walk, whether you are a new believer or have been a Christian for a long time. We all get discouraged and life has a way of leading us away from God at times, but its in both the good and bad times that God wants us to fully come to him and lean on Him.

What I Know: Book Review & Giveaway

About The Book:

Only people at the bookends of life can truly tell it like it is. In What I Know, a remarkable group of 10-year-olds and 100-year-olds share their insights on life with Roger Fishman to reveal unguarded truths and surprising wisdom.

You’ll be inspired by the lighthearted yet profound thoughts from 10-year-olds:
“Think of yourself as a dot on a line. The things behind you are already over, so always move forward down the line.”
“Integrity is doing good deeds when no one is looking.”
“It’s not about whether somebody will ‘be there’ for you. It’s all about whether you will ‘be there’ for somebody else.”

And you’ll find time-tested knowledge in the words of centenarians:
“In marriage, you have two sides to the bed: one where you fight and the other where you make up.”
“You’ve got to love, respect, and develop a genuine belief in yourself before you can be there to do that for anybody else.”
“In life, the one thing you can control is your word.”

Offering a variety of perspectives from these two unique groups,
What I Know is, ultimately, a trove of universal truths from a diverse cross section of 10-year-olds and 100-year-olds with a wealth of experience.

 About The Author:

ROGER EMERSON FISHMAN is the founder and CEO of The ZiZo Group, Inc. He lives with his wife, Courtney Thorne-Smith, their son, Jack, and chocolate Lab, Norman, in Los Angeles.

My Review:

This book is beautiful. From the photographs of both the children and the adults, to the wisdom seen in the quotes. It has been a long time since I have been inspired by a book, and this book definitely inspired me.
It is divided into themes:

**Believing In Yourself
**Integrity
**Friendship
**Parenting
**Longevity
**The Joy Of Giving
**Preparing for Life
**Personal Choice
**Preserverance
**Change

Each section begins with a story from one of the adults and then is full of wisdom from the adults and children. I am always amazed at how wise children can be, and I still learn a lot from the wisdom of an older adult!

One of my favorite quotes is from a 10 year old....."Life is unexpected like a curveball. Sometimes you'll strike out, sometimes you'll get hit by the pitch, and other times you'll get the big hit. Just be ready for your at bat".

Another quote that really impacted me was by a 100 year old...."(talking about friendship) It's about learning to see an imperfect person perfectly. Let me tell you: you are very weird; we all are. When  you can find someone who's weirdness fits with your own, you better join up in mutual weirdness." This is priceless:)

I believe that this book will make you laugh and cry in the same reading! It did for me.

This would be the perfect gift for anyone in your life. Whether for Christmas, or birthdays, graduation or even a wedding gift! I highly recommend this book! It will change your life.

BUY IT: What I Know: Uncommon Wisdom & Universal Truth from 10 Year Olds and 100 Year olds can be purchased through Amazon.com and Amazon.ca, as well as through your local bookseller.

WIN IT: One reader will win their own autographed copy of What I Know by Roger Emerson Fishman

My Review:

As a mom, I could totally relate to the author's beginning statements in the book about having too much to do and not enough hours in the day to do it all!!!! Therefore, I am always on the hunt for books and/or products that will help me out. This book is full of great ideas and methods that will help all moms. For example, making lists when needing to get things done and when grocery shopping, menu planning and having your children help out around the house. Many of the ideas in this book I already use, but it was a great reminder for me. This book also seems to designed for moms who work out of the home, however as a stay at home mom, there were many ideas that do, and will, work for me.

I highly recommend this book to all moms, as its great to learn new ideas about how to make our days the best they can be!!!

There's More To Life Than Making A Living - Review and Giveaway

About The Book:

A significant life has positive meaning and value beyond individual success. It means contributing to the lives of others and showing compassion. In this book, Jack McDowell shares the six keys to a life of significance: Find your calling, learn from your experiences, acquire habits that build character, discover the joy of generosity, build relationships for life, and don't retire. Each chapter contains specific actions that will help readers master the six essentials. These steps are the harvest of Jack's own experiences and they are, he says, "the gifts of a providential God to this seeker after a life with deeper and more lasting meaning."
Giving is man's God-ordained purpose. This book will provide encouragement and resources for the journey to a more significant life. It is a personal invitation to discover that there is far more to life than just making a living.

About The Authors:

Jack C. McDowellwas born in Hollywood, California, during the depth of the great depression. He served The Salvation Army for 38 years, devoting his life to the organization's financial needs and dedicated officers. In 2005, Jack endowed and sponsored the opening of The Salvation Army's School for Leadership Development, whose purpose is to build spiritually motivated leaders and equip them with the resources and skills to complete their mission with The Salvation Army.

My Review:

A very easy to read book with tons of ideas to make your life one of significance. I especially loved these questions McDowell asks the reader on page 23, when talking about Finding Your Calling:

What Are You Passionate About?
What Are Your Strengths and Talents?

Also, on page 91 he talks about how self confidence is the fruit of self acceptance and gratefulness. McDowell reminded me to "see yourself through God's eyes...as His absolutely unique creation, as His son or daughter He adores, as someone born for significance." I LOVE THAT!!! What a wonderful reminder. This book is so full of little tidbits like that one.

Here is one more (among many) quote that struck me:

"Look back over your own life and in gratitude and recall the persons
and experiences that helped you the most. Then look to your future.
You can't predict the future but your gratitude for the past can
help you visualize what the future can become. Believe that
the God that has cared for you and given you a wonderful life
will continue to lead you into a future worthy
worthy of your highest expectations and hopes"
(p. 183)

Secular Sabotage Book Review & Giveaway

About The Book:

This assault is not happening from accident or whim. It is happening because disaffected liberals have deliberately set out to upend our Judeo-Christian traditions. Indeed, they are determined to tear down the traditional norms, values, and institutions that have been part of American society from its founding. The cultural debris that these saboteurs have created will take decades to clean up.

In feisty prose Donohue explores our nation where a college student is threatened with expulsion because she prayed on campus, a civil rights organization protests a statue of Jesus found on the ocean floor and a housewife sues a school district to stop the singing of Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer at a school choral production. These are just a few examples cited that demonstrate a culture descending into madness.

Donohue takes no prisoners as he digs out and exposes the groups behind this all-out attack on our Christian traditions. Among these are the radical atheists, the proponents of multiculturalism, the sexual libertines, the Hollywood elite with their not-so-hidden agenda and lawyers who collaborate for profit.

About The Author:

William Donohue has been the president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights since 1993. Founded in 1973, the League works to safeguard both the religious freedom and free speech of Catholics in America. Trained as an educator, he began his teaching career at St. Lucy's School in New York's Spanish Harlem and went on to teach sociology at La Roche College in Pittsburgh. He holds a Ph.D. in sociology from New York University.

He serves on many boards, including the Washington Legal Foundation, the Jewish Action Alliance, Ave Maria Institute and the Christian Film & Television commission.

Dr. Donohue lives on Long Island, New York.

 My Review:

Donahue pulls no punches in Secular Sabotage. He writes with great knowledge and it is obvious that he has done his research about how "secularism" is destroying America as we know it. From the Art world to pro-life issues to Christmas,  Donahue leaves no topic alone. Although I do not agree with everything Donahue states in Secular Sabotage, he gives a great picture of how America in general, and government in particular, views religion and Catholicism.  He is very clear in his book that he does not want to quiet the voices of oppressers of Christianity, he just wants people to stop bashing Christianity. When I first read this book, I felt like I was listening to someone standing on a soapbox and venting about all that is wrong with the world. Essentially that is what Donahue is doing, but he does it in such a way that all reading will understand the issues at hand. He is simply telling the reader about specific situations and the ramifications.  This book is well written and very well researched. I highly recommend for anyone who is interested in how politics and Christianity go "head to head" in America.

BUY IT: Secular Sabotage by William Donahue can be purchase at Amazon.com and Amazon.ca, as well as your local bookseller

Upcoming Review: Golden Moon Tea

I have never been a big coffee drinker. I will drink a cup or two maybe once a week. However, when it comes to tea, that is a whole new ball game. I LOVE TEA!! It can be simple Earl Grey, or flavored or Green, whatever, I will usually drink it.

I found out about a great company called Golden Moon Tea and will be reviewing their products in the coming weeks, but wanted to let you know about one of their best sellers, Earl Grey Tea. Earl Grey has always been a favorite tea of mine, and the Tippy Earl Grey sounds divine.

I have never used loose tea before, but have been told once I do, I will never go back to bagged teas again. I cannot wait to try out the tea from Golden Moon Tea and tell you all about this great company. Keep your eyes peeled in the near future for a full review.

An Excerpt of Closer:

Don't Lose Sight of the Goal

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. —Philippians 3:14
We live in a beautiful beach town, Dana Point, on the coast of Southern California. We never tire of the view. On most days when we are near the water, we see Catalina Island, twenty-six miles offshore. There are a few days when it is foggy and you can't see it, but it is forever etched in our minds. People board boats from the harbor in our town to visit this magical island every day of the year. Some people take a fifteen-minute helicopter flight. A few brave souls paddleboard to the island, but very few ever try to swim there.
In 1952, Florence Chadwick decided to swim from Catalina Island to the shores of Southern California. She had already swum the English Channel, so in her mind, this would be easier. She jumped in the water one cold day in winter. No problem for Florence Chadwick. But as she swam hour after hour with a boat following her to make sure she was all right, fog settled in and she began to wonder how much farther she had to go. At last she motioned for the boat to pick her up. As it turned out, Florence was only a half mile from reaching her goal. She wasn't too exhausted or cold. The fog had simply obscured her vision from her target. So she quit.
On the day of our wedding we had a goal: to draw closer to each other and closer to God. Too many times, though, the weight of home responsibilities, work pressures, kid worries, and all the rest fog our vision for closeness. Spiritually speaking, everyone has foggy days. But God is there to say to us in His quiet, persistent voice, "Don't quit. Persevere. Do all you can to keep your eyes focused on the prize."
The writer of Hebrews gave us a formula for perseverance: "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart" (12:1–3). The way not to grow weary and lose heart in your marriage is to keep your eye on the goal. Stay focused on Jesus, our goal, our sustainer, our Savior.

Faith Conversations

  • Has there been a time when fog surrounded our marriage?
  • What areas of our lives do we need to persevere in right now?
  • How can I help you do that?

My Review:
Back when I was in Bible College, I read a number of Jim Burns' books while studying Youth Ministry, and loved them. I am so thrilled that he and his wife have written a devotional book for couples. As I read through this book to prepare for completing this review, I was so impressed with what I read.
The Burns' cover many different topics that a couple will go through during their marriage. Topics covered in this book include:
**Finances
**Making Your Marriage a Priority
**Being a example of a great marriage to your kids
**Serving One Another
**and many more
Since we all have busy lives and its sometimes almost impossible to make time for our marriages, this book is perfect. Its designed so that you only need to take 30 minutes a week to go through each devotional. Or if you want, you could do one daily. I love this because I know that using the book on a weekly basis means that my husband and I have a definite weekly time to connect on a spiritual basis and learn not only from the Scriptures but also from one another.
This would be the perfect Christmas gift for the newlyweds in or life. In fact, I have a sister getting married in the summer and this is going to be under the tree for her this year:) Also would be perfect for newly engaged couples too. A wonderful wedding or wedding shower gift as well.

Just Breeze Blog Tour & Review

About The Author:

Beverly S. McClure started her writing career early—though she approached it kicking and screaming—when her eighth-grade teacher sent her poem “Stars” to a high school anthology and it was published in Young America Sings. She graduated from Midwestern State University and became a teacher. As soon as she discovered Dr. Seuss and other great children’s stories, she willingly put pen to paper and had stories and articles published in Ladybug, Focus on the Family Clubhouse Jr., U. S. Kids, Jack and Jill and other leading children’s magazines, including an article that was reprinted in a Scott Foresman Pre-K anthology and a breakout article that appeared in the June 2007 issue of Writer magazine.
A multi-published author, Beverly’s Listen to the Ghost, Secrets I Have Kept and Rebel in Blue Jeans are available in trade paperback. Her latest book is Just Breeze, and she has four more books under contract. A member of the National Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and their North Texas Chapter, Beverly is the mother of three grown boys and lives in the country with her husband, Jack, where an occasional deer, skunk, or armadillo come to visit.

About The Book:

Eighth grade starts out the same as every other year for Breeze Brannigan. She’s still the tallest student, boy or girl, in her class, wears shoes that would fit an elephant, and her smile reveals dazzling braces that blind everyone within ten feet. She also has to deal with the dented fender on her sister’s VW that they paint to cover up and the new girl in school, Allison, who likes to steal boyfriends. Breeze isn’t concerned. She’s everybody’s bud. No boy is interested in her.
Then there’s Cam, AKA Carlomango Christiano y Moises, who Breeze thinks must be from another planet because none of the boys At Whispering Springs Middle School are that polite. He also has a secret, a secret that could mean life or death for Cam and his mother, a secret Breeze must help him keep.

An Excerpt:

The halls of Whispering Springs Middle School rang with laughter, joking, and teasing. High-pitched chatter and friendly shouts of greeting ricocheted off the walls. Locker doors clanged open, clattered shut. A banner reading GO COYOTES fluttered from the ceiling. The smell of freshly waxed floors stung my nostrils.
I sighed. My first day in eighth grade started out the same as seventh grade, sixth grade, fifth grade, and all the way back to kindergarten. Unless a new student had enrolled, I was still the tallest person, boy or girl, in my whole school.

And my feet … I yanked open the locker door and stuffed my gym shoes, or rather my canoes, inside. I wasn’t about to let anyone see they’d fit an elephant, with room to spare. My feet were trying to set a record for gianthood and doing a good job of it. Turn green with envy, Sasquatch. I bet your feet never grew two sizes in one summer. I made a mental note to walk carefully so not to tromp on other kids’ toes and break their bones. Eew. Painful.

 My Review:

I have never read any of Beverley Stowe McClure's previous works but after reading Just Breeze, I will definitely do so. Just Breeze is a wonderfully written book that takes a look at the time of life most of us want to forget...adolescence. I could totally relate to the character of Breeze, as I was the girl with glasses and braces and always trying to fit in with the kids around me.  The characters are well developed and the writing makes the reader feel that they are right in the scene. Honestly, I think this book would make a really cute "coming of age" scene play, like My Girl. Just Breeze is an easy to read book (I read it in only a couple of hours) and is perfect for the 10-15 years age group.

Just Breeze would be the perfect read for the young girl in  your life. And with Christmas just around the corner, I would highly recommend this as a fantastic stocking stuffer.

The Truth by Barbara Holstein Blog Tour

About The Author:

Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein is the originator of The Enchanted Self(R). She has been a positive psychologist in private practice and licensed in the states of New Jersey and Massachusetts since 1981. She is currently in private practice in Long Branch, New Jersey with her husband, Dr. Russell M. Holstein.
She is the author of The Enchanted Self, A Positive Therapy, Recipes for Enchantment, The Secret Ingredient is YOU! and There Comes A Time In Every Woman’s Life for DELIGHT.
Her newest book, The Truth, I’m Ten, I’m Smart and I Know Everything! is another first in positive psychology. Written by a ten-year-old girl as a diary, Dr. Barbara has been able to imbed lots of positive truths that we all need to remember and live by, regardless of our age.

About The Book:

THE TRUTH, (I’m a girl, I’m smart and I know everything) is a delightful, humorous secret diary, written by a girl who is 10-11 years of age. She is wise and yet so innocent. She makes us laugh and cry and know that we are secretly heroines. This easy read for girls, (the mother’s edition has a different introduction, different questions at the end, and some pages that are slightly more sophisticated) has within it a psychological message for girls, that they can and must hold on to the best of themselves as they grow up. Girls love the book and so do their mothers. Girls recognize themselves and finally feel totally understood while their moms remember themselves, feel closer to their daughters and everyone has lots to talk about.

 My Review:

The Truth (I'm a girl, I'm smart & I know everything) by Dr. Barbara Holstein is a very easy to read, fun book that brings the reader into the mind of a "Tween" (9-12 years old). Many of the issues the writer of the diary touches on are all issues that many girls this age deal with. It was a very refreshing look into the thought process of young girls. This book is a perfect read for those girls who don't necessarily want to ask the "tough questions about growing up" and yet want to learn how to cope with all the changes that will occur between the ages of nine and 12 years of age.

I highly recommend this book to parents, and teachers or youth workers of pre-teen girls. I think this book would make a great Christmas gift for the young girls in your life.

40 Loaves Book Review and Giveaway

About This Book

“Why don’t I have more faith?”
“Why am I so bored with Jesus?”
“Why are Christians so hard for me to like?”

There are many questions we’re not
supposed to ask when playing by the religious rules. It makes people uncomfortable. So why is it that Jesus invited questions and even asked some of them himself? What is it that you’re afraid to ask God? It’s a risky prospect to begin asking–but far riskier to continue simply trying to get by without knowing. Author C. D. Baker asked himself 40 soul-searching questions which started a conversation in his heart and ultimately showed him more about God than He ever expected.

Can we become more honest with who we really are and find who God says He really is at the same time? Come
indulge yourself in daily readings with an honest exploration of your secret fears and thoughts, and know that you will always be welcomed in God’s unconditional love.

Search me, O God … and know my anxious thoughts.
–Psalm 139:23 NIV

About The Author:

He is the author of eight books, including six novels, one of which was nominated for a Christy Award. He has contributed articles to the Christian History Institute’s international publication Glimpses, and to Christian Singles magazine. Baker has a Master’s degree in theological studies from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland .

You can read PDF excerpts of 40 Loaves by C.D. Baker here

My Review:

This is a wonderful little devotional that will be an encouragement to all who read it. It touches on topics that many of us think we are scared to ask, because we might be seen as weak. Some of the topics covered include:

*Why Do I care so much about my reputation?
*Why are some Christians so hard to like?
*Why am I bored with church, the Bible, and Jesus?
*Why am I always stuck in the past?
*and many more....

This book was very well organized and I love that the devotionals are short but full of content! Each chapter is a small devotional, with Food For Thought questions to ask yourself and a scripture passage to encourage the reader.

This book makes you realize that even if you don't outwardly ask these questions, we all think about them and need to deal with them, or we will never be all we can be in Christ Jesus. And He wants all of us.

40 Loaves would be a perfect gift for anyone in your life who needs a boost of confidence and encouragement, as well as for those who are confident in their Christian walk and need encouragement from time to time. This would be the perfect devotional to kickstart the upcoming new year!

With Christmas only 9 days away, 40 Loaves will be the perfect stocking stuffer!

A Climate For Change - Book Review and Giveaway!

About The Book:

Global warming: it's one of the hottest scientific and political issues of today. And yet we've all found ourselves asking . . .

- It's freezing outside--where's global warming now?
- Climate is always changing--how do we know this isn't just a cycle?
- Why should Christians care about global warming when we know the world won't end that way?

For all the talk about climate change, there's still a great deal of debate about what it all means, especially among Christians. A CLIMATE FOR CHANGE offers straightforward answers to these questions, without the spin. This book untangles the complex science and tackles many long-held misconceptions about global warming. Authored by a climate scientist and a pastor, A CLIMATE FOR CHANGE boldly explores the role our Christian faith can play in guiding our opinions on this important global issue.

About The Authors:

Katharine Hayhoe is a professor in the Department of Geosciences at Texas Tech University and CEO of ATMOS Research, a scientific consulting company. She contributed her research to and served as Expert Reviewer for the Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Katharine's work has been presented before the U.S. Congress, highlighted by state and federal agencies, and featured in over 200 newspapers and media outlets around the world.

Andrew Farley is the lead teaching pastor of Ecclesia (EcclesiaOnline.com) and co-hosts Real Life in Christ, a 30-minute program that airs every week on ABC-TV in the West Texas area. Andrew served as a professor at the University of Notre Dame for five years and is now a tenured professor at Texas Tech University. Andrew has coauthored three textbooks and more than a dozen journal articles. He is also the author of The Naked Gospel: The Truth You May Never Hear in Church.

My Review:

I am the first to admit that I do not follow alot of the media  about climate change and global warming. Its not that I do not think its important, because I totally do. I just do not have an interest in all the political drama that comes along side of the talk about global warming, saving the earth, etc.

However, after reading A Climate For Change, I have begun to realize that I need to have at least a working knowledge about climate/weather change and how I, and people in general, can help the earth. This book gives me that knowledge. It is full of great information about the history of climate changes and how its affecting the earth as we know it today. I love that this book uses science, not politics, to teach the reader about whether global warming is truly happening. It is well written, and done so in an easy to read/understand format.

The main point made during the last part of the book is that doing something to fight global warming is "a step in the direction of caring for people" and simply put, the Bible tells us "we are to love one another". By loving one another we are going to, hopefully, take the necessary steps to keep the earth as healthy as possible for the people on it! As Christians we must respond to fighting global warming/climate change and this book will definitely help you understand why.

Check out the Climate For Change website here, for great resources and to purchase the book!

Eyewitness Blog Tour and Giveaway

About The Book:

Eyewitness reaches people who seldom go to church or read their Bibles.

Of the millions of Americans who don't go to church, 56 percent consider themselves Christian. If they knew what Jesus said and did, they would know the importance of networking and reaching out to help others. While Bibles sit on coffee tables and bookshelves at home, gathering dust, people pick up Eyewitness and don't want to put it down. Not only does it use language that is easily understood, it pulls readers into the story, almost like walking with Jesus in the first century.

The Bible has sold more copies than any other book and continues to sell year after year. Continuing in its footsteps is the Eyewitness series written for the average person.
Flash back to first century AD. One man appeared who shook up the world. Four men testified to what they saw and heard. The details of Jesus life were recorded by four of his closest followers. Each account is written from a different perspective and only one of the four tells the events in chronological order. Therefore, for centuries, the accounts have been told in out-of-sequence fragments.

Eyewitness compiles the information from the Gospels and hundreds of other Bible verses into one chronological story laid out like a story without reference or verse. The result is a seamless combination of the four gospel books that will appeal to customers across the board, even those who would not normally purchase a Bible.

About The Author:

Frank Ball was the Pastor of Biblical Research and Writing at Anchor Church in Keller, Texas, for three years.

After thirty years of research and teaching the life of Christ, he began a twelve-year project to analyze every gospel story about Christ and put the events into chronological order. Ball meticulously considered almost twenty resources, including the Greek and Hebrew texts, the opinions of other Bible writers, and different translations, to make sure his translation was correct. Using the gospel of John as the chronological backbone, he determined an appropriate time setting for every event.

Ball believes there is no greater role model than Jesus. The better we know him, the more we can be like him. “It’s impossible,” he says, “to love someone you don’t know. The Scripture arranged in this easy-to-understand order helps us to know Jesus. It allows us to be more of an ‘eyewitness’ to the events of Christ’s life, and in doing so, to be more like him.”

Ball has always been a great student, especially in math and the sciences, but hated English. He excelled in high school; however, because his family was impoverished, he was unable to attend college. After high school he took a menial job that supported his parents and siblings. In 1968 he married Kay and they had three sons. Kay passed away in 2005. Ball currently lives with his family in Fort Worth, Texas.

When personal computers became available, Ball embraced systems analysis and business administration. He devoured reading material on the high-tech industry and was a successful business executive until he made a commitment to full-time ministry in 2002.

In 1995, despite his dislike of English, Ball believed God was redirecting his life, and he devoted himself to writing—which has, ironically, become his passion. Knowing the challenges he faced without a secondary education, Ball became self-taught by voraciously reading books as if they were college texts. He studied as if he were preparing for tests.

Ball says that this project wasn’t his idea at all. He just had an unexplainable desire to do this chronology, and along the way he realized that God had a plan. Using his Eyewitness Stories version of the Gospels as a foundation, Ball assembled the gospel information, as well as more than two hundred other Bible verses from the Old and New Testaments, to create what he believes is the accurate order of events. Ball believes the combined stories resolve some of the discrepancies that some say exist in the Gospels.

My Review:

I loved this book! It is easy to read, and is a very quick read. You can read it in one or two sittings or you could you use it as a devotional.  I think that Eyewitness is a perfect gift for a new Christian or even for someone who has been a Christian for a while, but would like a new look at the life of Christ. I love that it includes Old Testament and New Testament for the reader to do further study.

I highly recommend this book for all. It would be a perfect Christmas gift, and since its a relatively small sized book, would be a perfect stocking stuffer.

Blackout - A Book Review

About The Book:

Riley Covington is still reeling from his father’s brutal murder when he learns he’s been traded. Meanwhile, the counterterrorism division has detected a plot to detonate electromagnetic pulse bombs that could leave the U.S. without power, communications, and transportation—right down to dropping planes out of the sky. CTD scrambles to stop the attacks, but they run out of time. Amid the fallout, Riley, Scott, Skeeter, and CTD must regroup to make sure the second bomb doesn’t reach its destination.

You can read the first chapter in PDF format here.

 About The Authors:

Jason Elam is a 15-year NFL veteran placekicker for the Atlanta Falcons. He was born in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1988, Jason received a full football scholarship to the University of Hawaii, where he played for four years, earning academic All-America and Kodak All-America honors. He graduated in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in communications and was drafted in the third round of the 1993 NFL draft by the Denver Broncos, where he played for 15 years.

In 1997 and 1998, Jason won back-to-back world championships with the Broncos and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1995, 1998, and 2001. He is currently working on a master's degree in global apologetics at Liberty Theological Seminary and has an abiding interest in Middle East affairs, the study of Scripture, and defending the Christian faith. Jason is a licensed commercial airplane pilot, and he and his wife, Tamy, have four children.

Steve Yohn grew up as a pastor's kid in Fresno, California, and both of those facts contributed significantly to his slightly warped perspective on life. Steve graduated from Multnomah Bible College with a bachelor's degree in biblical studies and barely survived a stint as a youth pastor.
While studying at Denver Seminary, Steve worked as a videographer for Youth for Christ International, traveling throughout the world to capture the ministry's global impact. With more than two decades of ministry experience, both inside and outside the church, Steve has discovered his greatest satisfactions lie in writing, speaking, and one-on-one mentoring.
Surprisingly, although his hobbies are reading classic literature, translating the New Testament from the Greek, and maintaining a list of political leaders of every country of the world over the last 25 years, he still occasionally gets invited to parties and has a few friends. His wife, Nancy, and their daughter are the joys of his life.

My Review:

I have to admit I have not read the first two books in the Riley Covington Thiller Series, but after reading Black Out, you can bet I am going to.

This book was full of suspense, and intrigue with story lines overlapping the world of professional football and terrorism. The writting is done in such a way that it is very realistic, frighteningly so. Alot of research had obviously been done for the writting of this book and that definitely adds to the authenticity regarding terrorist groups and actions. But what I like the most is that the authors have included an underlying Christian message.  Amazing, easy reading. I was able to read the book in about half a day.

This book is scheduled for release in January 2010 and I highly recommend it.

BUY IT: Blackout by Jason Elam and Steve Yohn will be available through Amazon.com and Amazon.ca in January 2010 and currently can be pre-ordered. You can also purchase it through your local Christian bookseller.
