Flipping for Phonics Review & Giveaway

I have been blogging for over a year and last summer began doing product and book reviews, and have received some great products over the last six months.

I am always looking for products that I can use with my children, ages three and 18 months old. I am a firm believer that children learn through play. However, I realize that there is also a time for "sit down" learning, using workbooks and other regimented learning tools. Since my children are still pretty young, I do not do a lot "homework" per say, but my daughter has recently discovered that Mommy has a stash of Pre-K workbooks. Though I was planning to wait a little while to introduce them, she is showing interest, so I have begun working on them with her.

It is actually a good thing, as we have been entertaining the thought of homeschooling once she starts formal schooling age at five years. By spending time with her now "homeschooling" I will find out if she would thrive being educated at home, and I find out if I can do it as well!

Recently, I had the opportunity to test and review a great learning tool called Flipping For Phonics! Thank you to Flipping For Phonics and Southard Communications for providing me with a complimentary set for the purpose of review!

About Flipping For Phonics:

Flipping for Phonics is a product used to teach toddlers-adults how to read.  The program uses a combination of children’s story books using word families, music CD’s, and a unique one-of-a-kind 6 column flip book used to teach reading to toddlers-adults.

This  flip book can form over 2000 words. The photos included in the book act like flash cards and are all real life items that both children and adults alike can relate too.   The story books have super cute stories that are beautifully illustrated with characters that can be easily identified with.   The CD’s are the word family stories set to music.

My Review:

Flipping For Phonics is a wonderful product. Since my daughter has only turned three in October, she is only recently begun to recognize letters and some of the sounds they make. We have been using the built in flash cards in Flipping For Phonics, and other methods, to work on her letter/sound recognition and she is now finally at a point where she has learned a good handful of them.

I have not yet used Flipping For Phonics to its fullest extent as my daughter is not quite at that stage, but we have read the stories together and listened to the CD's which come with the set and I love them. The books are incredibly bright and hold my daughter's attention. The CD's are fun lively and great to dance too!

Flipping For Phonics states that you can teach a child or adult to read in as little as 20 minutes a day. Because I have not used the product to the fullest extent, I will leave my review of this claim to a different time. However, it was encouraging to see video on the website of young children reading and learning phonics! I just caution parents to remember that every child is unique in their learning abilities and I caution parents to not push children to learn things beyond what they know their child is capable of learning at the age they are at. I will be posting a more detailed review of this product as I use it more with my daughter.

I highly recommend Flipping For Phonics as a learning to read phonetically versus memorization. This would be perfect for homeschooling, for ESL teaching, preschools and Kindergartens and for those parents who have children struggling with learning to read, as an at-home tool.
