Anything But Normal: Book Review

About The Book:

This year should be the best of Sophie Ramsay's life. She's friends with all the right people, she's a shoo-in for editor of the school newspaper, and she's managed to turn the head of one of the hottest guys in school.

But something's not quite right. Sophie has a secret--one she won't be able to keep under wraps for much longer.

My Review:

I have been reading more of Melody Carlson as of late, and I have to say her newest Young Adult book does not disappoint. I felt that Anything But Normal was a very well written book, easy to read, and covers a very sensitive issue in a very well mannered way. I am going to be vague in how I talk about the plot so not to "spoil" things for you, so my review might seem a little different then I normally write.

Anything But Normal introduces us to a young lady in her senior year of high school who is dealing with all the "typical" teenage angst....PMS, school work, extra-curricular activities, boys, etc....but now because of poor choices Sophie has to deal with the consequences. This book discusses the issues in a very honest manner, and shows that even Christians are not perfect. We make mistakes, yet we know that we are forgiven and that God will bring us through our trials, whatever they are. The book shows just how judgemental society can be with this social issue, and yet the book also shows what can happen when compassion works. I believe that Melody Carlson dealt with the issue portrayed in this book in a way that not only was honest, but also did not glamorize it either. I highly recommend this book.
