Love and War Book Tour

About The Book:

What the Eldredge bestsellers Wild at Heart did for men, and Captivating did for women, LOVE & WAR will do for married couples everywhere. John and Stasi Eldredge have contributed the quintessential works on Christian spirituality through the experience of men and the experience of women and now they turn their focus to the incredible dynamic between those two forces.

With refreshing openness that will grab readers from the first page, the Eldredges candidly discuss their own marriage and the insights they’ve gained from the challenges they faced. Each talks independently to the reader about what they’ve learned, giving their guidance personal immediacy and a balance between the male and female perspectives that has been absent from all previous books on this topic.   They begin LOVE & WAR with an obvious but necessary acknowledgement:  Marriage is fabulously hard.  They advise that the sooner we get the shame and confusion off our backs, the sooner we'll find our way through.

LOVE & WAR shows couples how to fight for their love and happiness, calling men and women to step into the great adventure God has waiting for them together. Walking alongside John and Stasi Eldredge, every couple can discover how their individual journeys are growing into a story of meaning much greater than anything they could do or be on their own.

My Review:

I have long been a fan of John Eldredge and his wife, Stasi. I have read Wild at Heart, and Captivating both and learned so much through them. This book was no exception. John and Stasti are so honest in this book about marriage even after being married for 25 years. They are very blunt and to the point when they say "marriage is hard".

If you are expecting "happily ever after" you are just setting yourself up for disappointment. Even in a Christian marriage, such as I have, marriage has its tough times. We are flawed individuals, all of us, so of course we are going to bring flaws into a marriage. What marriage doesn't. We argue, etc but we always know we will come through it being stronger, and better people, and ultimately, more in love.

We have been married since 1997 and have had the experiences of dealing with a cancer diagnosis, infertility, premature baby born, an extended NICU stay, numerous cross-provincial moves, and all the other stuff that you deal with in marriage. But at the center of it all is God. The same grace and forgiveness that is extended to us from God, we have to extend to our spouses in times when its needed! The Eldredge's make this comment in the book that floored me: "your spiritual life can't go anywhere without forgiveness. Marriage can't go anywhere without forgiveness!" (p. 204) That is the only way marriage works!

John and Stasti Eldredge want us to fight for our marriages, to get rid of the "romantic, fairy tale" ideals of marriage that are out there. To be realistic. Life is tough, marriage is tough, but yet its those tough times, that bring us closer together, with God's grace and help, if we let Him! God promises us He will never let go through things He knows we will not be able to handle, He will guide us through all our experiences, good or bad. That includes the marriage journey. That is exactly what a marriage is - a journey. I love how John and Stasi Eldredge remind the reader of this throughout the book.

The book covers topics such as money, sex, temptation, looks and scours of other situations, in an easy to read, sometimes harsh and humorous, manner! There is also a DVD Study of this book available through the Love and War website.

If you want to improve your marriage, you need to read this book!
