The Mayo Clinic Diet: Book Review

Since being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in January, I have regularly been on the lookout for cookbooks and meal plan ideas that will help me keep my blood sugars in check! Recently I became aware of the book, The Mayo Clinic Diet and through FSB Media I was provided with a complimentary copy of the book to review. I was also sent a bonus product: The Mayo Clinic Journal!

About The Book:

In our work with literally thousands of patients, we've identified the critical habits of people who maintain a healthy weight, and the habits of those who don't.

With The Mayo Clinic Diet, we've boiled this research down to five simple habits to help you take off the extra weight -- and five habits to break so that you can keep it from coming back. Plus, we've made it easy, because what works best when it comes to weight loss is keeping it simple!

The Mayo Clinic Diet is composed of three sections to get you started, to keep you on track, and to give you the knowledge and tools you need to keep those unwanted pounds off for good

  1. Loose it! is a two-week quick-start program designed to help you lose 6 to 10 pounds in a safe and healthy way.
  2. Live it! is a long-term plan in which you continue to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week until you reach your goal. Then, you learn how to maintain your healthy weight for life.
  3. All the extra stuff includes meal planners, recipes, tips on overcoming challenges and much more to help you along the way.
The Mayo Clinic Diet puts you in charge of reshaping your body and improving your health -- for a lifetime.

About The Journal:

The Mayo Clinic Diet Journal includes:

The Lose It! Quick-start section that helps you keep track as you add 5 habits, break 5 habits, and adopt 5 bonus habits.

The Live It! Section of the Journal makes losing weight easier as you use this section to follow the Mayo Clinic Healthy Weight Pyramid, record your activity each day, and keep track of your goals.

My Review:

This book is full of awesome information to help you get on the right track with not only weight loss but your whole body health! It gives you all the tips you will need to make a lifestyle change that you will not only be proud to make, but be successful in doing so! I love that the first part of the "diet" includes the five habits section, to add 5 good habits, break 5 bad habits and add 5 bonus habits. By making these simple habit changes and writing down goals, food and exercise intakes, you will change your life!

One of the most important points made in the book is how to eat (portion control) what to eat and what not to eat! Not only that, but The Mayo Clinic Diet really makes you think of goals and answer the question for yourself, "why do I want to do this?" That is key. If you have no goals, it is pretty much a given you will have a very difficult weight loss journey.

I can attest to it! In the two weeks that I have had the book and journal, I have been meticulous in recording my habit changes, food and exercise intake and have seen a significant change in my blood sugars, in my weight (lost 7lbs) and in my general health (more energy for example).

I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up!
