About The Book:

How Clarissa Burden Learned to Fly is the transcendent story of a young woman who, in a twenty-four hour period, journeys through startling moments of self-discovery that lead her to a courageous and life-altering decision.

About The Author:

Connie May Fowler is an essayist, screenwriter, and novelist. She is the author of five novels, most recently The Problem with Murmur Lee, and a memoir, When Katie Wakes. In 1996, she published Before Women Had Wings, which became a paperback bestseller and was made into a successful Oprah Winfrey Presents movie. She founded the Connie May Fowler Women With Wings Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to aiding women and children in need.

My Review:

This is the first novel I have read by Connie May Fowler. Although I enjoyed the writing style and felt that the characters were quick well developed, I did not really enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. I think the main reason is that there is a lot of foul language and other mature themes, that really, in my opinion distracted me from reading the book. However, the storyline of making a life changing decision, along with whimsical characters and the many human emotions and behaviors explored, did keep me engaged. I believe this would be a powerful book for a book club to explore.

  1. I find it intriguing that one decision can change your entire life path and looking back its strange to see how if we took a different decision how different life would have turned out to be. This book is descriptive of that.
