The One-Week Job Project: Book Review

About The Book:

When Sean Aiken graduated from college, he had no idea what he wanted to do with his life—so he decided to try everything. Thus began the one-week job project, in which Sean would work a different job each week for a year.

Sean's remarkable journey took him across North America working as a bungee jump operator, tattoo artist, aquarium guide, advertising executive, brewmaster, and cancer fundraiser. In each new job, he learned not only about himself but also about the people around him, finding out what drives people to choose a certain career, what makes them successful, and, more importantly, what makes them happy.

Over the course of his year on the road, Sean learned more about work, friendship, love, and life than he ever imagined. This honest, hilarious, inspiring account is a must-read for anyone who’s ever asked themselves, “What should I do with my life?”

About The Author:

Sean Aiken was born in 1981 and grew up in Port Moody, B.C. He graduated from Capilano College in North Vancouver with a degree in Business Administration in 2005 and was voted Class Valedicatorian. His adventures have been broadcast on Canadian and international television and are documented on his popular website, oneweekjob.com

My Review:

This book was absolutely remarkable. What a journey this young man went on over the course of 52 weeks. Wow. He experienced more jobs in one year than most of us do in a life time (the average person has seven career changes in their lifetime). He was a yoga instructor, cancer fund-raiser, exterminator, and fashion buyer, just to name a few jobs! Now I am not going to spoil the ending of this young man's journey because I really want you to read this book! It is a very quick read but packs a huge life lesson....it does not matter what you do, just make sure its something you are passionate about! (Sean's dad told him that).

During the 52 weeks that Sean worked these jobs all money earned was donated to the ONE/Make Poverty History Campaign, with over $20,000 raised. Not only did Aiken write a book and film a documentary but the media has taken this project by storm...Aiken's website states that Yahoo.com sent over 30,000 people to his website in under an hour (crashing the server in the process!) Wow! I can tell you right now, it has been a very long time since I have read a non-Christian book that has had that much impact on people. You can find out more information on the project at One Week Project.

If you want to be inspired, then you have to read this book! I highly recommend this book for any high school and college student and feel this would be a wonderful graduation gift.

I give this book a huge thumbs up!
