The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo: A Book Review

About The Book:

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared off the secluded island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger family. There was no corpse, no witnesses, no evidence. But her uncle, Henrik, is convinced that she was murdered by someone from her own deeply dysfunctional family. Disgraced journalist Mikael Blomkvist is hired to investigate, but he quickly finds himself in over his head. He hires a competent assistant: the gifted and conscience-free computer specialist Lisbeth Salander, and the two unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

My Review:

This is the first book by Stieg Larsson I have had the pleasure of reading. I choose to read it because I had heard so many wonderful reviews about it.  This book is so full of mystery, you will be taken on a roller coaster ride of twists and turns right until the end. I do have to admit though, it does start very slow, and I got a bit frustrated with that. However after the first couple chapters, it was better.

This book does get quite detailed in the description of violence against both animals and women, and because of that I would caution you. I typically do enjoy mystery/thriller books, but not sure that it is necessary for authors to be quite so graphic. This book will definitely not be for everyone.

That said, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was a very well written and easy to read book. I would like to read the other two books in this series as well. I actually saw the movie just after receiving the book and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I think I actually liked the movie better. It is a definite must see!

If you enjoy a good thriller, you will have to read this book! I recommend it and give it a huge thumbs up.

  1. Thanks for the review. I just purchased the Kindle edition and was debating on starting it or another book. I'm going with this one!
