PBS Kids DVD Review

Last weekend I participated in Blogmania, and the giveaway I used was a 4 Pack of DVD's courtesy of PBS Kids! The pack included the following DVD's:

Martha Says It With Flowers

Everyone's favorite talking dog, Martha, is available for the first time on DVD, with a compilation of eight fanciful stories that also improve kids' vocabulary.

Calilou Pretends To Be...

Features four memorable episodes where Calilou dons the robes of imagination and sets out as everything from a builder of houses to a scientist.

Word Girl - Earth Day Girl

In this DVD, young viewers will be enchanted by the eight adventures of Word Girl and Captain Huggy Face, who teach important grammar and vocabulary lessons as they thwart the plans of silly and nefarious villains. This DVD introduces 16 new vocabulary words and reinforces their meanings in a variety of fun and interesting contexts.

Super Why: Peter Rabbit & Other Fairy Tale Adventures

In this latest part of the Super Why Series, famous fairy tale characters like Peter Rabbit, Goldilocks, Tom Thumb, and Rapunzel embark on new adventures with the help of the Super Readers.

My Review:

All four of these DVD's have been a wonderful addition to our collection of fun and educational DVD's in our home. I was very excited when I was given the opportunity to review these!

My oldest daughter has been a fan of Super Why for a while, and she was so excited when I told her I had a Super Why DVD. She is such a fan that I cannot sing the ABC's to her in the "normal" tune, I have to sing it like Super Why!!!  I love how Super Why brings to life classic storys and fairy tales and has educational lessons included! The TV show, as well as the DVD's are fun, musical and kept the attention of both my 3.5 year old and my 21 month old!

My children have never really been interested in Martha Speaks as of yet, so I showed them the DVD, but they really have not had much interest. I find it a fun DVD, but perhaps it seems geared to slightly older children. It is one that we will bring out again another time. I find it very cute though, and fun to watch too!

Word Girl is just starting to peak the interest of my oldest daughter and she loved that this DVD also included information about recycling and Earth Day. Ever since we have taught her about recycling she is forever reminding us that we have to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Obviously, at only three and a half years old, she does not understand these concepts 100% but it is through our guidance and the help of shows like Word Girl that she is learning how to care for the earth!

Finally, Calilou is one of my toddler's favorite characters. And in this DVD, we see that children learn all about different community helpers. It is a fun, active show that kept both of my girls' attention throughout with bright colors and lots of activity! Your toddler will love Calilou!

Each DVD retails for $14.99, which is a great price, and is full of great bonus content too! If your children are fans of any of these great PBS KIDS shows, you will not be disappointed with these DVDS.

I highly recommend these products and give them all a huge thumbs up!
