Eco Gear: Operation Smile T-Shirt Review

Living green seems to be the new thing to do in recent years, and my home is no exception. Though we are only in the beginning stages of doing everything (or as much as possible) green, we have made significant progress. We recycle as much as we can, have started buying some organic foods, watch our energy costs and how much water we consume. Though this is only some of the things we do around my home, I have begun researching "green" clothing. Recently I discovered a wonderful Canadian company that produces some incredible eco-friendly clothing! Without more delay, I would like to introduce you to EcoGear.

About Eco Gear:

Our foundations were as makers of private label clothing. Inspired by the growing natural disasters that happened in 2007, we started to look into what we could do as a corporation to minimize the footprints of what we do for a living.

Changing our lifestyles at work and at home to use less simply wasn't enough. Our first sights were naturally set at organically grown products such as cotton, hemp or bamboo but the products didn't feel right.

If you think about the clear cutting that has to take place to grow cotton or the obscene amounts of clean drinkable water turned into sewage in the process, you would say the foot print is still too heavy.

Along the way we’ve met new friends that made excellent products that echoed our own and we’re proud to be able to work with them to provide consumer products for what we believe will be truly sustainable lifestyles. You can see the causes that Eco Gear supports through the research and sale of their products here.

Our Company is all about earth-friendly alternatives to fashion apparels. We hold dear our vision and belief that everyone has the means to make a difference. Every small change can reduce and repair our mistakes done in the past.

We give you our word that EcoGear apparels are made from 100% recycled material. Quality is never compromised in the making of these apparels. It wears just like any other clothes, the only difference you'll feel is your conscience, nourished by the thought that you have done something right.

My Review:

My husband and I were each sent the above shirt in the chocolate brown color! Here is how the EcoGear website describes the Smile Shirt:

The shirt to change the world, one person at a time. We live in a pretty stressed out world. The simple suggestion here to smile will create a happier mood among friends and strangers you meet. $5 from the sale of this shirt is donated to www.operationsmile.org

The first thing I noticed about the shirt was how soft the fabric is. The fit of the shirts are wonderful. The sizing of the shirts were great, generous without being bulky looking and I love the cut of the shirts too. The men's shirt fit my husband more snugly then he likes his shirts (baggy and loose) but it looked really nice on him. My shirt feels wonderful and instead of feeling like I am wearing a t-shirt, I feel more feminine, and less frumpy (a very good feeling for a mom!)

I love that clothing made by EcoGear are free of eco-damaging chemicals, heavy metals, formaldehyde or other dyestuffs with unknown affects on people. EcoGear products do not contain PVC, which is known to be a carcinogenic. I also love that the inks used and the printing process are PVC and Pthalates free, as both these chemical families have adverse effects not only on the environment, but on people too.

EcoGear also carries a great variety of eco-friendly bath and body product, house products and jewellery. I am definitely checking into getting more from this wonderful company!

If you are looking for inexpensive, high quality, eco-friendly products and clothing then you have to check out EcoGear today!
