Growing Grateful Kids: Book Review
Even when economic times are tight, our children enjoy an abundance of material possessions. Yet, amidst all this wealth, discontentment and competition seem to be on the rise. Instead of teaching children virtues such as gratefulness and patience, many parents are bending over backwards to get their children the latest and greatest item — or feeling guilty when they can't. With the currents of materialism and entitlement flowing so strong, how do we raise kids who are simply thankful? With simple language, interesting anecdotes, and biblical applications, Susie Larson helps readers understand that although teaching perspective and gratitude to our children is critical, it is not difficult

As a mom to young children, I am alway on the lookout for books that will not only give me great parenting advice and ideas, but be encouraging as well. Susie Larsen's most recent book, Growing Grateful Kids is just that type of book!
With open honesty, humor, Larsen takes you on a journey that will not only help you teach your children how to live humbly and content in a "gimme" society, but will help you, as a parent, grow in a deeper relationship with God.
My favorite part of the book is that at the end of each chapter, Larsen gives the reader both personal AND parental applications. There are not enough parenting books that do this, and I am so happy that this book came into my life when it did.
This is just one statement from the book that really stood out to me:
"if we stay in step with the Lord and parent out kids out of response to Him, rather than reaction to them, then are actions will far more likely hit their mark and bring about a real change of heart rather than just an external compliance" (p. 154)
"God isn't interested in making our lives comfortable. He wants to make our lives count. He wants to make our lives count. He wants us to live significant lives. And we want the same for our kids, wouldn't you say?"
If you want to be challenged in a way you have never been by a parenting book, then you have to read this book. You will learn how to teach, and model grace, humility, wisdom, contentment, compassion, forgiveness and more to your children, and in the process grow in your own walk with God. This book is very easy to read, and is biblically strong, and you will reference it many times in all the stages of being a parent!
This book would be an exceptional baby shower, or child dedication book!
I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up!
