More teens are turning away from the faith than ever before: it is estimated that 75 to 88% of Christian teens walk away from Christianity by the end of their freshman year of college. Something must be done.
Family Driven Faith equips Christian parents with the tools they need to raise children biblically in a post-Christian, anti-family society. Voddie Baucham, who with his wife has overcome a multi-generational legacy of broken and dysfunctional homes, shows that God has not left us alone in raising godly children. He has given us timeless precepts and principles for multi-generational faithfulness, especially in Deuteronomy 6. God’s simple command to Moses to teach the Word diligently to the children of Israel serves as the foundation of Family Driven Faith.

I was recommended to read Family Driven Faith by Voddie Baucham Jr. a few months ago by a friend. Shortly after that, the opportunity to work with Crossway (Baucham's publisher) came up, and I knew that was my chance to read it. I am so glad I did.
Baucham Jr.'s book takes a look at family and examines why so many young people are leaving the church in their adolescent years. One of the reasons stated is that we, as parents, are not doing our Biblical duty in teaching our children Biblical values and the value of worship. Instead we leave it up to youth and children's ministries around the country to fill the gap. Baucham challenges parents to stop this - to look outside the box and take responsibility for our children's spiritual development.
He gives awesome ideas of how to incorporate a family worship ministry right in one's own home! We can't expect our children to develop a Christian worldview when we don't take the time to guide and teach them to develop such a worldview. We as Christian parents have to realize we NEED to stop "passing the buck" and take responsibility for our children's spiritual future. Baucham is right on in this!
One of the ideas that I came away with and want to implement is the idea of a weekly family worship night, with singing, Bible Reading and prayer. We already do Bible Stories with our girls, but this adds another element that I am really excited about!
Here is a statement that really hit home to me as I read through Family Driven Faith:
"God has designed your family - not the youth group, not the children's ministry, not the Christian school, but your family, as the principle discipling agent in your children's lives. The most important job you have as a parent is to train and disciple your children." (pg. 118)
If you want a great book to help you understand your role in building your child's faith in God, then please take the time to check this book out. You will not be disappointed. I know I wasn't.
