Beyond The Brady Bunch: Book Review

About The Book:

Blending a family is far more messy and complicated than any television show portrays. Beyond the Brady Bunch is a heart book, not a how-to book. Christians who find themselves in the midst of step-family life often feel hopeless and far from God, struggling with grief and unforgiveness. From personal experience the authors have found that all the how-to steps in the world don't work if there isn't first a heart change. Speaking with honesty and vulnerability they share their own mistakes and how God dealt with their hearts. The book will help stretch hearts, minds and homes past the image of "perfect" and another "happily ever after" into the hope of God's promise to restore, heal and rebuild.

My Review:

In today's world, you would be hard-pressed to find a family that has not been touched by divorce and remarriage. With a divorce rate of 50% as a national average both in the United States and here in Canada, children are being integrated into blended families on almost a daily basis. Although not ideal, it is a fact of life, and parent's need resources that will help them deal with the plethora of issues that come with being a part of a blended family.

Blended families deal with issues like discipline, getting along with everyone, communication , how to handle custody and visitation isses, holidays and so many more issues. Now comes a book that will guide blended families in a God-centered manner.

Beyond The Brady Bunch is written by a couple united together as a blended family. So that is the first thing that impressed me. These are not authors that are just spouting off facts, but have actually lived what they are writing about. They also include viewpoints from their adult children.

Another part of the book that is wonderful is that at the end of each chapter is questions for discussion for blended families to incorporate into their own family discussion times. A fabulous resource for sure!

The book is very well written, Biblically sound, and easy to read!  This book is full of tips and ideas for blended families, and has a level of "realness" and authenticity that is very refreshing to see. The authors speak candidly about their experience and teach the readers lessons from their experiences throughout the book.

If you are a blended family or know a family that is going to be a blended family in the future (ie: second marriage coming up) I highly recommend this book!
