Families With Purpose: Family Advent Activity Pack Review and Giveaway

With Christmas just around the corner, many families celebrate using a countdown method. Whether it is a Jesse Tree, Chocolate Advent Calendar or other method, this is a fun way to get together for some quality family time.

Families With Purpose is all about making time for one another, and having fun while doing so. I recently had the opportunity to work with them on a review of the Mom's Plan It Calendar and today I am excited to share my thoughts on their Family Advent Activity Pack.

About Families With Purpose:

We inspire and enable parents to create a meaningful family life for themselves and their children by providing products, resources, and services which empower parents to take control of their family life and build a warm and loving home.

Our History

Families with Purpose was founded in 2003 with the goal of making it easier for families to spend time just being a family.  As parents of four busy children and both working outside the home, we were feeling the frustration of not having enough quality time as a family.  Thus spawned the idea for our company, Families with Purpose. Realizing there are only so many hours in a day, our goal is to try and minimize the planning, buying, and running time for family activities, so that as parents you can relax and just enjoy your family time and the little things in life.

We also realize every family is different and what works for one family may not necessarily be what works for another.  With this thought in mind, we try hard to offer a variety of choices in our recommendations and are continually adding and expanding the content of our website.  We value the input and comments from our visitors and customers, so please feel free to contact us at any time.

About The Family Advent Activity Pack:

These Advent family nights began in our home in response to our desire our daughters understood Christmas was more than just Santa and presents.  We also wanted to create a simple, quiet Christmas tradition we could do in the comfort of our own home (we had grown increasingly tired of having to bundle them up to go out). Unfortunately with the demands of our jobs, the girls' school activities, and just the general craziness of life we were finding it hard to do this without spending a lot of time, energy, and money.  Because of these frustrations, we were determined to find a simpler better way and thus began our idea for family Advent nights.  We began using these activities in our own home and have also shared them with other families in our church. We combine the Advent activities with Christmas stories,Christmas songsfamily Christmas rituals, and of course snacks.  Our girls absolutely love this time we share together and look forward to it every week.

Designed for families on the go who are looking for simple quiet ways to celebrate the Advent season without the planning, running, and hassle.  Each Advent Activity Pack includes an Advent Calendar, the family devotional book, Gather Round the Christmas Tree, and the seek and find picture puzzle book, Which Way is Christmas? Ages 4 and up.  These items are not sold individually

Advent Calendar

Open a different "window" each day of December to reveal a CHRISTIAN IMAGE behind each one. No Santa Claus, elf or snowman. These calendars have a picture and a Bible passage behind each window. The back of each calendar leads your young people on an "Advent Treasure Hunt" each day with a question, a riddle or a fill-in-the-blank ... answered or filled in when you open the window on the other side.  9 1/4" x 12

Gather Around The Christmas Tree - Family Devotions For Advent

A booklet of family devotions, stories, and fun facts which draws the family together in preparation for the celebration of Christmas.

Just as the Christmas tree becomes a focal point of our celebrations in the home, Jesus is the focal point of our preparation for celebrating the coming of the Lord. Author Dr. Mary Manz Simon uses the stories of popular tree ornaments and family traditions to emphasis the religious dimension of the season. Through these simple stories, fun facts and suggested activities, families are encouraged to savor their special moments and memories as they reflect on the meaning of Christ's birth. Softcover • 32 pages • 5 3/8" x 8 3/8"  Sample devotion and activity (pdf format)

Which Way Is Christmas?

Camels, donkeys, and sheep are joined by cars, trucks, and airplanes in this colorful devotion book that leads children on a search for the baby Jesus. Kids will love to scan the beautiful Seek-and-Find photographs for the hidden objects that point to the Bethlehem manger. This book is sure to provide hours of fun and devotion for the entire family. 8 1/2 x 11 | 32 pages | Softcover

My Review:

The Family Advent Activity Pack has everything you need to have a Christ centered Advent season. Even with a two year old child, I know I will be able to adapt many of the activities included in the pack. My four year old and I have already peeked a bit at the Which Way Is Christmas? book, but I explained that we will save it for December, and she is okay with that (surprisingly). We actually started a paper chain countdown to see how many days until we can use the calendar and books. I am so happy that the girls are so excited. The illustrations in the book and the photo on the calendar are both so bright and cheerful, and the devotional is very easy to read. In fact, for a family with older children, they could take turns reading the devotional, if a family so chose to do so. Once we actually get into December, I will be able to make a more detailed comment about my thoughts on the pack, but so far, it looks great to me.

If you are looking for a great set of Advent materials for your family, I highly recommend the Family Advent Activity Pack from Families With Purpose.
