Holiday Gift Guide Day 8: Rock N Learn Money and Making Change DVD Review and Giveaway

Over the last few months I have had the pleasure to work on a couple reviews for Rock N Learn. Both the Phonics Volume 1 (see my review here) and Getting Ready For Kindergarten (see my review here) were fantastic, so when the chance arose to review another Rock N Learn DVD, I jumped at it. This time I was able to review Money and Making Change.

About Rock N Learn:

Rock ’N Learn, Inc. began as an idea that would help children learn by putting educational material to music with a current sound—the kind of music that kids enjoy and find motivating. Now with over 50 products, we have sold millions of audio/book and video programs to teachers and parents throughout the United States, Canada, and other countries.
Rock ’N Learn programs help students learn math, phonics, reading, early childhood, social studies, Spanish, test-taking strategies, writing, and science. Our DVDs incorporate cool music with exciting, colorful imagery.
Headquartered in Conroe, Texas, just north of Houston, Rock ’N Learn is owned and operated by its founders, Richard and Brad Caudle. Our primary warehouse is in North Carolina.
Working as a school psychologist in 1986, Richard saw the need for multi-sensory learning programs using the styles of music that kids love. He consulted his younger brother Brad, an accomplished musician, to record their first program to help kids learn multiplication facts. Strong sales of this recording in the school specialty and book markets led to other programs and the start of a successful company.
Richard and Brad never varied from their number one goal of providing children with programs that would make learning easier as well as fun. Brad’s wife Melissa, a former second-grade teacher, writes material and coordinates educational research for Rock ’N Learn. Richard’s wife, Kathie, manages sales and marketing.
Rock ’N Learn programs have received numerous awards such as Dr. Toy, Parents’ Choice, iParenting, National Parenting Publications, Learning Magazine Teachers’ Choice, Early Childhood News, National Parenting Center, and Parent's Guide to Children’s Media. Our programs lead in the areas of quality and customer satisfaction based on surveys of school supply stores.
As documented in hundreds of testimonials received each year, Rock ’N Learn programs work. The overwhelmingly positive response from parents, teachers, and kids generates tremendous word-of-mouth support. By consulting with educators and featuring talented vocalists and performers, Rock ’N Learn will continue to develop quality audio and video programs that hold interest and help kids learn.

About Money and Making Change:
Penny and Bill have a problem. With their big concert to play, they must repair a broken speaker. Fortunately, Penny has been saving money in her piggy bank. But just how much does she have?
Penny and Bill learn how to recognize coins, a little about the history of money, why coins and bills are starting to look different, and much more. They learn strategies for sorting coins and cash and use "skip counting" to find out exactly how much money they have.
After lots of counting money, Penny and Bill learn how to make change by pretending to buy funny items at a garage sale. You'll have time to practice counting money and making change right along with them before you hear the answers. Finally, at the big concert that evening, guess who's invited to join Penny, Bill on the front row?
Penny and Bill know how to shake things up when it comes to counting money and making change. Cool songs and games provide plenty of practice with real-world skills. Learn about coins and how they relate to one another, strategies for counting cash, "skip counting," expressing money in written terms, how to make change, and more. You’ll have lots of fun as you gain valuable skills you can bank on.
For ages 6 & up. Approx. 57 minutes.
My Review:
Once again, I have not been disappointed by Rock N Learn and their wonderful educational DVD Series. In Money and Making Change your child will learn to identify and count the different types of money (bills and coins), meet the main characters Penny and Bill (love the names), play a few games and just have a great time. With awesome, catchy, upbeat music, Money and Making Change is perfect for children in the early elementary grades.
Although my daughters at 4 and 2 are quite young to be learning these concepts they did enjoy the DVD. They danced up a storm to the music, and my oldest actually has learned to identify a penny and has been wanting to practice counting them. For me, the only con to the Rock N Learn Money and Making Change DVD is that the money is all in American Dollars, and being in Canada, of course, my girls will learn Canadian money concepts first. But that aside, the DVD is awesome and I cannot wait to try out more Rock N Learn DVDs in the future. I especially would like to check out Dance With The Animals and Letter Sounds.
If you have a child in your life who loves music and educational DVDs, I highly recommend any of the Rock N Learn Products!
