Cinch: Book Review

I have tried to embrace a healthy lifestyle during the last five or so years, as I knew that I needed to loose some excess weight. Being only 5'2" and 170ish pounds is definitely not healthy. I knew I had to do something about it, but either I did not stick to a diet program or got bored with working out.

Then in January 2010, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and realized that I had to step up my efforts in my weight loss journey. In the span of six months, with a complete overhaul in the way I cook, and eat, as well as adding regular exercise I was able to loose 30lb. I am really proud of myself, but I also find myself getting frustrated still with having to count calories or keep track of my carb intake. I am always on the hunt for more ways to make this less frustrating, so I don't fall into bad habits again.

Recently I was introduced to Cinch, a 30 Day weight-loss program, and I can't wait to tell you all about it.

About The Book:

There are no calories to count; no points or grams to memorize.
Just begin choosing four daily meals from over one hundred delicious options (along with a mandatory daily chocolate escape), and you're well on your way to achieving your weight-loss goals. In thirty days on the Cinch! plan, you'll shed pounds and inches—and overcome emotional eating in the process.

Acclaimed weight-loss expert Cynthia Sass has arrived at the exciting secret to sustainable weight loss: her innovative combinations of clean, nutrient-rich foods not only maximize fat-burning but also deliver a faster, healthier metabolismforever. Following the plan is as simple as putting together an easy-to-understand fivepiece puzzle at every meal and enjoying four delicious, easy-to-prepare meals in addition to a chocolate treat. The Cinch! plan includes a full thirty days' worth of quick-fix, satisfying meals and teaches you a simple strategy for creating your own, so you know exactly what, how much, and when to eat, whether you're at home, at a restaurant, or on vacation. Cinch! makes weight loss simple, with meals you'll look forward to eating (no "diet" foods). And best of all, Sass starts her plan with an innovative five-day "Fast Forward," which jump-starts the plan's impressive results and will leave you feeling lighter and healthier.

If you've been trying to eat more clean, natural, and organic foods, but have lacked the structure needed to lose weight, this is the exact plan you've been waiting for. Cinch! includes every tool you'll need for weightloss success: Sass's proven plan, expert tips and advice, daily journals, grocery-shopping lists, chapters on exercise and emotional eating, and a month's worth of recipes—customizable for meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans. You'll enjoy Chocolate Pear Ginger Smoothies, JalapeƱo Guacamole, and Chicken Pesto Pitas—to name just a few luscious Cinch! options!

Best of all, Cinch! weight loss is lasting weight loss. In one month, you'll recalibrate your body, freeing yourself from cravings and erratic eating, and begin a satisfying new relationship with food. With Sass's expertise behind you, you'll be empowered to continue creating Cinch!-friendly meals and feel inspired by a wealth of new eating habits—making this so much more than a diet.

My Review:

I will be the first one to admit I am an emotional eater and a habitual evening snacker. I was very happy to read Cinch! and see that it can help a person overcome emotional eating, by making some really simple changes in your life. At the same time, you will become happier and loss weight too! There is a combination I can handle.

The book is loaded with fantastic ideas and tricks to overcome emotional eating, including charts to write down how you are feeling when you eat, great sounding recipes and a 5-day jump start to get your metabolism on track. The first five days of the program you eat spinach, raspberries, almonds, organic eggs, and nonfat plain organic yogurt. The book also gives you a list of foods and beverages that are good for the 30 day program. Sass also includes three rules that will help your 30 day program be successful:

1. Eat Like Clockwork - eat breakfast within one hour of waking up, and every 3-5 hours after that

2. Think "Five Pieces, Four Times A Day" - the way to organize your meals (produce, a whole grain, lean protein, plant based fat, and seasonings)

3. Make Flavor Your Focus - seasonings are a good thing; season meals with at least one of vinegar, citrus juice or zest, hot peppers, tea or herbs and spices.

I am about half through the book and am looking forward to January and really working through the program. There is so much to process through it and I will be blogging more about this program in January so stay tuned!

If you are looking for a new weight loss program to use in the new year, I highly recommend this book!
