Disciplines Of A Godly Family: Book Review

About The Book:

Disciplines of a Godly Family covers such topics as establishing a solid family heritage, promoting affection between family members, encouraging godliness in children, using appropriate discipline, and helping children cultivate enriching lifelong habits. The Hugheses also offer tips for fun and affordable family vacations, creating family traditions, and starting a prayer notebook. They even give us a suggested list of books and videos that should be in every family's library.
For those struggling to parent their own children or to equip other parents for this task, a more practical, honest, and common-sense guide will be hard to find.
About The Authors:
R. Kent Hughes, Senior Pastor Emeritus of College Church in Wheaton, Illinois, earned his DMin from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He has authored numerous books for Crossway, including a number of volumes in the popular Preaching the Word series. He is also the series editor.
Barbara Hughes has supported her husband Kent’s pastoral ministry for 37 years while also raising four children. She is a popular teacher of women’s groups and, together with Kent, has authored Common-Sense Parenting and Liberating Ministry from the Success Syndrome.
My Review:

If you are looking for a wonderful resource that will encourage you on your journey as a God-loving parent, I highly recommend Disciplines Of A Godly Family. It is full of very solid Biblical teaching and includes many personal illustrations from the Hughes' family. Also included are resources for using the Jesse Tree at Advent, celebrating the Passover as a family, how to create a prayer journey, Book Lists for Children, Tips for Discipline and more! This book has a TON of information for parents in order to create wonderful, and God honoring traditions with your children.

I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up.

  1. Sounds like a good read! I just received a book today similar in nature called "Regret Free Parenting" [for review]. As I thumbed through the Table of Contents, I could see some things I could benefit from.
I look forward to sharing the full review on my blog. :) Thank you for sharing!
