What's In The Bible Volume 5 DVD: Review and Giveaway

In March I applied for a chance to be a part of the What's In The Bible Street Team. Much to my delight, I was accepted on the team, and I am so excited to introduce you to the fifth installment of the What's In The Bible DVD Series from Phil Vischer, creator of Veggie Tales.

About What's In The Bible:

What’s in the Bible? is a new DVD series from VeggieTales creator Phil Vischer designed to walk kids and families through the entire Bible. The 13 DVD-series will release beginning March 1, 2010.

In 1990, 24-year-old computer-animator Phil Vischer sat down to create a group of characters that could teach Christian values to kids in a delightfully different way. A tomato named Bob and a cucumber named Larry were born. VeggieTales would go on to revolutionize Christian filmmaking, selling more than 50 million videos and placing Phil’s faith-filled stories in one in every three American households with young children. Phil continues to pursue innovative new ways to integrate faith and storytelling through his new company, Jellyfish Labs. His projects include Jelly Telly, which provides faith-based daily programming via the internet at

About Volume 4 - Israel Gets A King:

In DVD #5, Buck Denver and cast take us through the next books of the Bible: 1 and 2 Samuel. The two episodes focus on three of the most influential kings of Israel (Saul, David, and Solomon). And the Tricky Bits section defines the Trinity (after we learn that the Spirit of the Lord fell upon David). The DVD highlights God's promise to David and how the promise impacts the salvation story. We also see what happens when David (and the other kings) sin against God. Kids learn that there are consequences for sin! Each episode about 30 minutes long.

My Review:

My family had a blast viewing Israel Gets A King! During this past winter, I participated in a women's Bible Study that studied the life of David as seen in 1 and 2 Samuel, so it was really fun to be able to "study" the same topics with my girls. Although they are a little young for alot of the curriculum in the What's In The Bible series, they absolutely adore Michael and the Pirate and will frequently be heard singing the theme song, particularly in the backseat of the truck!

Volume 5 continues a fantastic series that is theologically strong and I love that it brings adult topics of Bible history, and theology in child friendly ways through puppetry, skits and music. Yet even adults learn from these fantastic DVDS. Volume 5 was no exception to the fantastic products in this series.

I love that children can learn about what sin is and that even though God forgives us, there is always a consequence that must be faced. Just like David had to. I also was very impressed with the simplicity that the Trinity was explained, especially when that is a topic that even most adults can't understand fully. Like I said there is something in this DVD for everyone, even adults, to take away.

As a member of the What's In The Bible Street Team I will be posting regular updates about the series and as soon as I know when Volume Six is planning to release I will be letting you all know!

In the meantime, I highly recommend you watch Volume 5: Israel Gets A King and have a blast learning all about how God used King David for His glory!
