Rock N Learn Preschool Learning: Review and Giveaway

As an Early Childhood Educator and a mom of two preschool children (ages 3 and almost 5), I am always looking for new ways for my children to learn. I also have a home daycare program, and during the day we do a lot of hands on learning through play.

It is my personal opinion that children need to do what they know best, for as long as they can, as that is the way they learn. And the best thing they know how to do is play! However, while play is important, I also believe children learn through technology like television and DVDs.

Over the years, I have discovered many wonderful television shows and DVD's that have helped the girls learn basic concepts like colors, numbers, shapes and more. Some have been really great, and not only taught my children, and kept their attention, but they were also entertaining for my husband and I. Other's not so much....however, recently I discovered a wonderful company in Rock N Learn!

I have had the privilege to work with Rock N Learn over the last year and am excited to introduce you to their Preschool and Kindergarten Collection!

About Rock N Learn:

Rock ’N Learn, Inc. began as an idea that would help children learn by putting educational material to music with a current sound—the kind of music that kids enjoy and find motivating. Now with over 50 products, we have sold millions of audio/book and video programs to teachers and parents throughout the United States, Canada, and other countries.
Rock ’N Learn programs help students learn math, phonics, reading, early childhood, social studies, Spanish, test-taking strategies, writing, and science. Our DVDs incorporate cool music with exciting, colorful imagery.
Headquartered in Conroe, Texas, just north of Houston, Rock ’N Learn is owned and operated by its founders, Richard and Brad Caudle. Our primary warehouse is in North Carolina.
Working as a school psychologist in 1986, Richard saw the need for multi-sensory learning programs using the styles of music that kids love. He consulted his younger brother Brad, an accomplished musician, to record their first program to help kids learn multiplication facts. Strong sales of this recording in the school specialty and book markets led to other programs and the start of a successful company.
Richard and Brad never varied from their number one goal of providing children with programs that would make learning easier as well as fun. Brad’s wife Melissa, a former second-grade teacher, writes material and coordinates educational research for Rock ’N Learn. Richard’s wife, Kathie, manages sales and marketing.
Rock ’N Learn programs have received numerous awards such as Dr. Toy, Parents’ Choice, iParenting, National Parenting Publications, Learning Magazine Teachers’ Choice, Early Childhood News, National Parenting Center, and Parent's Guide to Children’s Media. Our programs lead in the areas of quality and customer satisfaction based on surveys of school supply stores.
As documented in hundreds of testimonials received each year, Rock ’N Learn programs work. The overwhelmingly positive response from parents, teachers, and kids generates tremendous word-of-mouth support. By consulting with educators and featuring talented vocalists and performers, Rock ’N Learn will continue to develop quality audio and video programs that hold interest and help kids learn

My Review:
Ever since being introduced to Rock N Learn Educational DVD's last spring, our family has become fast fans of them. With wonderful interaction, music and tons of learning to be had, all of the above DVD's will provide many hours of learning.
Currently, our favorite is Getting Ready For Kindergarten, as my oldest starts school in September.  This DVD has a lot going for it. Not only does it teach children concepts like counting and colors, but they also learn that as we get older and go to school we need to learn to help out around the house, in this case by keeping our room clean! I am sure this is a battle all of us as parents deal with, and I love that this DVD addresses it in a fun and child-friendly manner. Also, my daughter is so excited that she learned to tie laces after seeing it on the video. I hadn't thought she was ready, but clearly I was wrong. Very proud of all the milestones she is reaching as Kindergarten approaches. Many she was doing prior to viewing this Rock N Learn DVD, but it definitely reinforced prior learning and taught her and her little sister (3 years old) a lot of new stuff!
Alphabet Exercise is a very fun way to get your kids moving and learning all at the same time. I actually use this DVD with my home daycare as a back up for gross motor activities when it is too cold or hot outside! Perfect to get the wiggles out of little people when transitioning to a new activity or mealtime.
Letter Sounds has been another favorite of mine, as my oldest is now trying to sound out words she is seeing in books.  I am actually hearing the girls sings the letter sounds out now, without the help of the DVD, so I know they are learning.
Spanish Volume 1 and 2 is a great introduction to the Spanish language and through watching this DVD and Dora, both my girls are learning to count to 10, and already picking up a few phrases. I love that! I know the earlier children are exposed to a second language the more success they may have in learning it. This DVD is a definite plus in my books, both as a mom and early childhood educator.
