Leapfrog Learning Fun: Review and Giveaway!

We are a huge Leapfrog loving family in the Rempel household. Ever since my children were infants we have used many Leapfrog products. Their products are not only fun and educational, but also very affordable, and will suit all children's learning styles.

In the last year, I have had the wonderful opportunity to partner with Leapfrog Canada and Harbinger Ideas on several reviews. Recently, I had the opportunity to review both the My Own Leaptop and a Tag Reader Book.

Putting Learning First:The Essence of Learning - LeapFrog's Scope and Sequence. All LeapFrog content and curriculum is based on a proprietary scope and sequence methodology, created by our educational experts, that identifies not only WHAT children learn, but WHEN and HOW they learn it—at each age and stage of development. What's more, our grade-based curriculum is aligned with educational standards, often mirroring what is learned in the classroom.
How it Works:See it. Hear it. Say it. Touch it. Learn it.
At LeapFrog, we surround the child with multiple ways of learning by tapping into their senses. Interactive learning experiences are further reinforced with immediate, and positive, corrective feedback. This multi-sensory approach has been consistently proven effective by third-party efficacy studies and research.

My Review:

First I will tell you our experience with the My Own Leaptop. We were generously sent the Pink Leaptop and what a fantastic little laptop for your 2-4 year old. It was very easy to set up on the Leapfrog website, adding your child's favorite songs, their name (so they get emails), and even personalizing the messages (we have them from my older daughter, myself and my husband and the grandparents). What I loved most about the personalized messages is they have some of the multicultural names for grandparents (although they did not have Oma - German for Grandma, so we just used Grandma). The setup took me about 10 minutes and then my 3 year old was off and exploring. She was so excited to get her own computer, as her older sister has one and is always bugging her to play with it (even though its over her head most times, she likes the music). I know this is one toys that will be played with for a long time to come (and is played with almost daily now). I also love the way it teaches early computer literacy, complete with a child sized mouse!

Now, the Tag Book. If you are the parent of a Pre-K or Early Elementary aged girl, you will (or should) know who Fancy Nancy is. I will be honest, and say I did not until Christmas when both my daughters received their very own Fancy Nancy Dolls. Now, she is like a part of the family. When I found out we could get Fancy Nancy Tag Books for our Tag Reader, I jumped at the chance.

I am glad we received Fancy Nancy Explorer Extraordinaire, as it teaches all about life sciences, for example the life cycle of a butterfly, which currently my almost five year old is obsessed with. Seriously, we have read The Very Hungry Caterpillar almost daily this summer, and corrects me when I say cocoon, telling me "it's a chrysalis, mommy, not a cocoon". So needless to say this Tag Reader has also had a workout in the usage department.

As an Early Literacy advocate, I am very impressed with all the Tag Books we have used, including this one. Each are appropriate for children ages 4-7 and include settings like having the book read to the child, or the child can tap each individual word to read themselves. They also include games to add some additional learning experiences. And you can have your child experience more fun with LeapWorld, a secure game site!
