For as long as I can remember Scrabble has been one of my favorite board games to play. I have fantastic memories of playing it with friends and family alike. It is one of those games that is not only fun, but educational as well. Over the years there have been a number of different versions of this classic family game, and today I am excited to tell you about two of them: Deluxe Scrabble and Scrabble Alphabet Scoop. The good folks at Hasbro Canada recently sent my family both these games to review and they are the perfect family games to give as gifts this Christmas.
Scrabble Alphabet Scoop:
Scoop, match, slam and score! Stir up your pot of letters and then take a card. Choose a word and start scooping tiles. If you’re the first to match your letters, slam on the pot’s lid to score. Mix up a fantastic batch of ALPHABET SCOOP fun!
Contents: Plastic Pot and Lid, 4 Plastic Scoops, 72 Word Cards, 104 Letter Tiles, Rules
2 to 4 players. Ages 6+
Scrabble Deluxe Edition:
This Scrabble game offers special features designed to spoil Scrabble players wherever they go. The folding game case opens to reveal a colourful gameboard with recessed game spaces. The game board rotates with ease on six soft rubber wheels. Two built-in side trays provide easy, compact storage and the game case handle make it easy to grab on the go.
Contents: Deluxe carrying case with SCRABBLE gameboard and two slide-and-store trays, 100 wooded letter tiles, 4 deluxe curved racks, plus drawstring letter pouch, gameplay guides.
Players: 2-4 Ages 8+
Like I mentioned above, Scrabble is one of my favorite games to play! And these two games have exceeded my expectations. With Deluxe Scrabble, I love that the game is rotatable and folds up nicely for travel purposes. Great idea for going to the cottage in the summer, and is portable enough to fit in a suitcase too.
As far as Alphabet Scoop, this has been the game of choice for my five year old as of late. The way the game works is that each person picks a card that has five words on it....the soup bowl is filled with scrabble tiles and each player has a scoop ladle...the first person to spell each of the five words on their card wins. The words vary from three to five letters in length, and we have been focusing on the three letter ones with our girls. What a fantastic way to help young children learn to spell! Another bonus is that all pieces, cards and scoops fit inside the pot for easy storage.
I highly recommend both games and also give both of them a huge thumbs up!
