Holiday Gift Guide Day 7: Amish Fiction from Barbara Cameron

About A Time To Love:

Englischer Jenny King returns to her Amish grandmother's home to recuperate from injuries she sustained overseas as a war correspondent. She's reunited with Matthew Bontrager, the Amish man she loved when they were teenagers. Will they be able to heal the pain both suffered when she left years ago? Library Journal called it, "A fine example of Amish fiction with likeable characters and even pacing."

About A Time To Heal:

Christopher Marlowe travels to Paradise, Pennsylvania, to speak with Jenny who he met while recovering from a bombing while serving as a soldier. There he meets Hannah, Jenny’s sister-in-law, and the two are immediately attracted. But can they overcome their differences? Matthew is one of the walking wounded, and Hannah is a spirited young woman who has been raised Amish. A reviewer wrote, “Like its predecessor, A Time to Heal hits on hard themes, such as doing the right thing even when it hurts, forgiveness, and trying to understand God’s will. This is Amish fiction with an edge.”

About A Time For Peace:

Jenny Bontrager tells herself she should be happy: she has converted to the Amish faith, married her true love, Matthew Bontrager, and is mother to his three children. But she longs for a child – just one child – of her own. Her unhappiness as months pass and she doesn’t become pregnant are affecting her marriage. And when one day she finds that her grandmother and Matthew have kept a secret from her, she is devastated. Can she forgive them and the God who she feels isn’t listening to her prayers for a child?fer

My Review:

I am a huge fan of Amish Fiction and during this last year was introduced to a wonderful author of this genre. I have posted the descriptions of all three of Cameron's Quilts of Lancaster Country Series but have only actually read the second and third book of the series. Based on those two, I am definitely going to go back and read the first book.

Not reading the first book of the series, A Time To Love, was a bit of a detriment as I did not know back history on some of the characters and storyline. However I still very much enjoyed both A Time To Heal and A Time For Peace. And if you did not know they were a series, they actually do well as stand alone books too!

Each was well written and the characters were all very relatable. It is very evident that the author has done her research as the books were rich with descriptions of Amish living and demographics. I love it when I read a book, and when I close my eyes I can visualize each page of the book. With Barbara Cameron's books I totally did that.

Also, the books have glossary's of Amish terms and a bunch of really yummy recipes too, that I am just waiting to try out on my family!

If you have an Amish Fiction fan in your life, all three of the Quilts of Lancaster County books would be a fantastic Christmas gift.

I highly recommend these books and give them a huge thumbs up!
