The Circle Maker: A Book Review and GIVEAWAY

About The Book:

Would knowing that your prayers will be answered change the way you pray? In The Circle Maker, Pastor Mark Batterson shares powerful insights from the true legend of Honi the Circle Maker, a believer who prayed miracles would happen to the people of God—and then they fell from the heavens like rain. Honi and Mark Batterson will help you bring your God-given dreams into being through bold, tenacious prayers that honor God and make the impossible come true.

According to Pastor Mark Batterson in his book, The Circle Maker, “Drawing prayer circles around our dreams isn’t just a mechanism whereby we accomplish great things for God. It’s a mechanism whereby God accomplishes great things in us.” Do you ever sense that there’s far more to prayer, and to God’s vision for your life, than what you’re experiencing? It’s time you learned from the legend of Honi the Circle Maker—a man bold enough to draw a circle in the sand and not budge from inside it until God answered his prayers for his people. What impossibly big dream is God calling you to draw a prayer circle around? Sharing inspiring stories from his own experiences as a circle maker, Mark Batterson will help you uncover your heart’s deepest desires and God-given dreams and unleash them through the kind of audacious prayer that God delights to answer.

My Review:

As a book reviewer/blogger, I have the opportunity to read many books in a year. Many of them I read very quickly while others I take my time in order to really absorb what I have read. This book is an example of the latter. While an excellent book, easy to read, it is heavy on content, and I admit that after each chapter I took a day or so to reflect on what I read and how it could be applied to my life.

The main topic of the book is prayer, for ourselves, loved ones and the world in general. Sure I have read books on prayer before but this one was different. Presented in very simple terms, the book examines how many of us pray out of selfishness and how we should instead be persistent and bold in our prayer life.

A challenging read to be sure, and there were a lot of new things I learned, for example about Honi The Circle Maker, and dug deep into my Bible to study further. Of course Honi in not in the Bible (based on Judaism) but reading about this legend, allowed me to study God's word about prayer deeper than I have in the past. Though parts of the book had a new age mysticism feel to it, I have to study it further to completely say to stay away from it. Like scripture tells us, I am testing everything I read, including this book, to God's word.

If you are looking for a book that will challenge you and encourage you, this is definitely one that will. I just remind you to use discernment, and allow God to show you what He wants you to learn from it. It is a well written book, easy to read and perfect for those who want to understand the importance of prayer in a Christian's life.

I recommend this book and give it a thumbs up!
