MissioLife: A Review

This summer, Beacon Hill Press of Kansas City released an intentional and formational small group experience entitled MissioLife.

As leaders in the church, it's challenging to equip people to be formed spiritually, to have the story of God become a practical reality and to actively become storytellers. MissioLife was created to do just that - to guide adults, youth and children on a pilgrimage through Scripture from understanding to participation in the mission of God.

One of the most unique features about MissioLife is that it is a digital resource. This means you can easily access and download the materials through the MissioLife website. From everything you need to lead a MissioLife group, to posters and other promotional materials, it's never been easier to organize and lead a community-wide experience.

MissioLife is for communities

MissioLife is intended to be experienced together as a community. Unlike individual devotionals designed for only one person or one learning group, MissioLife is intentional about involving everyone in your faith community. Adults, youth, and children can all share in this communal experience together through Breathe (Adult), Image (Youth), and Rhythms (Children). With age-appropriate material for each learning group and lesson materials specifically designed to encourage engagement and participation, MissioLife provides an opportunity for your entire community to better understand and participate in the mission of God.

MissioLife is formational

MissioLife enables spiritual growth through the spiritual formation model of story, theology, identity and calling, way of life, and behaviors and expressions. It calls us to move beyond simply reading Scripture to participation in the mission of God, both communally and individually. Through six (6 week) modules, one year of MissioLife provides the opportunity for intentional and comprehensive formation. Communities can continue on the journey with the following years of MissioLife.
  • Year One – The God of Life: A Story of God’s Redeeming Shalom
  • Year Two – The God Who Would Be King: A Story of God’s Kingdom
  • Year Three – The God of Promise: A Story of God’s People
  • Year Four – The God of New Creation: A Story of God’s Restoration

My Review:
As a Christian mom, I am always on the lookout for ways to teach my children about God. More than that though, as an early childhood educator, I love finding new curriculum that I can tell my friends who work in the field of Children's Ministry about. MissioLife is a new curriculum for all ages that I am really excited about. It not only introduces people to the Bible but also to the concept of being a missionary right in your own community! I love this! And I also love that this curriculum is all digital! Perfect for being environmentally friendly and for those churches that are technology savvy.
As a mom, and educator, the curriculum for children, is what interested me the most and it was really impressive. Designed for children ages 6-12, it is full of fun activities, handouts and information for children learn about our relationship with God and how it impacts the world around us. The activities are presented in age appropriate manner and gives parents a ton of ways to integrate the group learning at home through the week. The only thing that is missing, in my opinion, with the MissioLife curriculum is one for preschool children. I am not sure if there is a plan for this in the future, but I would love to see that!
The youth and adult curricula are contemporary and relevant, engaging and easily adaptable for all ages and stages of life. Again, all digital, environmentally friendly and affordable.
If you are looking for a whole church curriculum to use in the next year at your church, I highly recommend MissioLife! I give this product a huge thumbs up!
