My Review:
The BeyBlade Triple Battle Set is the perfect gift idea for the BeyBlade fan in your life. It includes all that is needed for the perfect battle and will provide hours of educational fun. You would not think of Bey Blades as educational, but in fact your child will be learning basic physic concepts as they play! The blades themselves are a great quality material, however I would have thought the plastic used for the stadium would have been a little thicker, although it is adequate. With the interchangle pieces, there is a huge variety in how the battles themselves playout, and this will definitely add to the like factor for certain.

I highly recommend this toy and give it a huge thumbs up!

Protection For Hire: A Book Review and GIVEAWAY!

About The Book:

First she served as a mob enforcer. Then she found Christ in prison. Now, Tessa Lancaster is protecting an heiress whose spouse seeks to kill her. In this action-packed read, Tessa and a handsome Southern lawyer discover the reality of being made new in Christ.

Tessa Lancaster’s skills first earned her a position as an enforcer in her Uncle Teruo’s Japanese Mafia gang. Then they landed her in prison for a crime she didn’t commit. Now, three months after her release, Tessa’s abilities have gained her a job as bodyguard for wealthy socialite Elizabeth St. Amant and her three-year-old son. But there’s a problem or two … or three …. There’s Elizabeth’s abusive husband whose relentless pursuit goes deeper than mere vengeance. There’s Uncle Teruo, who doesn’t understand why Tessa’s new faith as a Christian prevents her from returning to the yakuza. And then there’s Elizabeth’s lawyer, Charles Britton, who Tessa doesn’t know is the one who ensured that she did maximum time behind bars. Now Tessa and Charles must work together in order to protect their client, while new truths emerge and circumstances spiral to a deadly fever pitch. Factor in both Tessa’s and Charles’s families and you’ve got some wild dynamics—and an action-packed, romantic read as Tessa and Charles discover the reality of being made new in Christ.

My Review:

This is the first time I have read anything by author, Camy Tang, and I was very impressed. From the very first pages you are drawn into the world of Japanese mafia, action, forgiveness, moving on from our past and allowing God to transform even the least of these! A fantastic read, that due to topics and some violence, is suited to mature audience, but is very good. The storylines flow nicely, and will appeal to all readers of mystery and action novels.

I love the tale of  Tessa and how her character developed through the book. I am especially excited that Tessa will be seen in book two of the Protection For Hire series, releasing soon.

If you have a Christian mystery fan in your life, this is the perfect gift idea for your Christmas shopping trips in the coming weeks.

I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up!

Passages: A Book Review and GIVEAWAY!

About The Book:

Through his own story and the remarkable experiences of others, Brian Hardin inspires you to read the Bible for the adventure it is. In Passages, he answers your questions about reading Scripture, encourages you with practical ideas, and shows you that reading the Bible every day will change your life.

Many Christians feel guilty when they think of reading the Bible. Though they want to love reading Scripture, they rarely have time for more than a few verses on the run. But the Bible is not meant to be a burden. It is the story of God’s passionate love for His children. It is also not a book of mystical incantations. It is a best friend offering counsel and companionship. And it is not a distant relic, but something very near. Near enough, in fact, to be every reader’s story. So how do Christians delight in this story rather than see it as a source of failure? The founder of the immensely popular Daily Audio Bible, Brian Hardin shows readers how reading through the Bible in a year will change their life and the lives of others. Passages shows readers how to read the Bible and offers practical ideas for immersing themselves in God’s life-giving words. Here readers will discover that reading the Bible can be a breathtaking adventure.

You can read an excerpt of Passages, here, in PDF format.

About The Author:

Brian Hardin is a speaker, photographer, record producer and an ordained minister. In 2006, he created the Daily Audio Bible, an online podcast that now delivers 1.5 million downloads a month. He has produced over 150 albums and works with artists and the arts extensively. He is married to Christian musician Jill Parr.

My Review:

As another new year approaches many people think about resolutions and things they will do differently then the year prior. One thing that I have always said is that I will read through the whole Bible in a year. I can actually say that I have done that now twice, once very quickly (in 90 days) and once more slowly, a little each day of the year. Actually, in my lifetime, I have read through the entire Bible five times.

But it has not always been easy, more often then not it has seemed like something I "had" to do, not wanted to. And that is not what reading the Bible should be, it should be a joyful experience.

Author Brian Hardin has come up with a book that gives amazingly practical, easy to implement ideas that will allow you to not only read through the Bible in a year, but also get immersed in what you are reading and allow it to change your life.  Not only does he give fantastic ideas, but also included are three different reading plans for the reader to use. He uses many personal experiences as well to show why it is so important to incorporate daily Bible reading as part of our lives. This is the perfect book for a new Christian and even for those of us who have been a Christian for a long time and need to be encouraged to get back into the Word of God on a regular basis.

I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up!

The Peace God Promises: Review and GIVEAWAY!

About The Book:

If God has promised to give us the “peace that passes understanding,” why do we sometimes feel so anxious? What are we so afraid of? Are there ways of living that lead to peace? Conversely, are there ways of thinking and acting that lead to anxiety and a conflicted life? How does Jesus embody peace and where did his peace come from? The Peace God Promises sets our longings for peace beside God’s promise to provide it.

In her desire to experience greater peace, bestselling author Ann Spangler probes these and other questions. Exploring the stories that shape us, the memories that define us, and the relationships that connect us, she looks for ways to help us become more peaceful. What can we learn from Scripture, from Jewish tradition, from the Amish and others about rest, simplicity, healing, and peace? The stories she shares and the answers she discovers may surprise you. If you put them into practice, they may even transform you, enabling you to experience the peace God wants you to have.

About The Author:

Ann Spangler is an award-winning writer and the author of many bestselling books, including Praying the Names of God, Praying the Names of Jesus, and Women of the Bible (with Jean Syswerda). Her most recent books are The Tender Words of God and Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus (with Lois Tverberg.) She and her two daughters live in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

My Review:

Are you trying to find peace in this world of chaos? Have you struggled to find, "the peace that passes all understanding" and struggling even though God gives it freely? If so, I highly encourage you to read Ann Spangler's book, The Peace God Promises.

It is very easy to read, provides a ton of scripture references and fantastic questions for both individual and group discussions and reflection. The book covers a great variety of topics like giving yourself a day of rest, cultivating a prayer life, forgiveness, living in community with others, living simply and more. This book is perfect for all those looking to understand more about God's peace for our life.

I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up.

Holiday Gift Guide Day 29: Learning Fun with Sesame Street Review and GIVEAWAY!

With all the craziness that life has brought me the last couple of days, I have skipped a few Gift Guide days but I am back a few more great gift ideas this week! Here is the first one, once again, courtesy of the great folks at Hasbro.

For many years, Sesame Street has been a staple in homes around the world. Preschool children learn concepts such as counting, colors, second languages, and social skills like accepting others, sharing, and more as they interact with puppet friends Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Ernie and Bert and more.

Hasbro and Sesame Street have partnered up over the years to help even the youngest of children learn and grow in fun and exciting ways. This can be seen in the Block Party Character Set, with Elmo, Big Bird and Cookie Monster.

Cookie Monster Find and Learn Number Block/Big Bird Color and Shape Blocks:

Cookie Monster and Big Bird help make learning fun! When child places the blocks in Cookie Monster’s lap, he teaches about numbers and counting while Big Bird teaches about shapes and colours. They can identify the images on the blocks, sing songs and ask questions. Each character is sold separately. However, all blocks are interchangeable between characters.
Each figure comes with 3 blocks. Ages 2+

My Review:
Hasbro Canada generously sent us the Cookie Monster Find and Learn Numbers Block Set and we could not be happier with it. In particular my three year is loving to learn to count with Big Bird (all the way to 10). She dances and sings to the music, and now is evening count items around the house as she plays in her day. What I love best about the Find and Learn Sets is that they are interchangable blocks. That means I only have to buy one character, but can buy all the blocks to increase learning in a variety of concepts! Love it! With the bright colors, educational fun and lovable characters that Sesame Street is known for, your child will have a ton of fun with Cookie Monster and his pals. I know my daughters have, as well as the children in my family child care program!
A great gift idea this Christmas shopping season for the Sesame Street fan in your life.
I highly recommend this product and give it a huge thumbs up!

Wonderland Creek: A Book Review

About The Book:

I was perfectly content with my life--that is, until the pages of my story were ripped out before I had a chance to live happily ever after.

Alice Grace Ripley lives in a dream world, her nose stuck in a book. But the happily-ever-after life she's planned on suddenly falls apart when her boyfriend breaks up with her, accusing her of living in a world of fiction instead of the real one. To top it off, Alice loses her beloved library job because of cutbacks due to the Great Depression.

Longing to run from small-town gossip, Alice flees to the mountains of eastern Kentucky to deliver five boxes of donated books to the tiny coal-mining town of Acorn, a place with no running water, no electricity, and where the librarians ride ornery horses up steep mountain passes to deliver books. When Alice is forced to stay in Acorn far longer than she planned, she discovers that real-life adventure, mystery--and especially romance--may be far better than her humble dreams could have imagined.

About The Author:

Lynn Austin, a former teacher who now writes and speaks full time, has won seven Christy Awards for her historical fiction. One of those novels, Hidden Places, has also been made into a Hallmark Channel movie. Lynn and her husband have raised three children and make their home near Chicago, Illinois.

Visit Lynn's Web site at www.lynnaustin.org

My Review:

Lynn Austin has done it again with her most recent release, Wonderland Creek! With a wonderful story line set in the era of The Great Depression, and a delightful character seen in Alice Ripley, you will drawn into a book with romance, mystery and more from the very first chapter.

Although I am always up for a well written book, if characters are boring or  the story line drags, I know I won't enjoy the book. I have never had this experience with any of the Austin books I have read, and Wonderland Creek is no different. It is obvious that extensive research was done to make the book as authentic in it's descriptions, etc and the characters are marvelously developed. I love Alice's spunk and drive, and loved watching her develop and mature as the story moved on. This was actually my favorite part of the book.

The themes of getting over the past, moving forward despite obstacles, and helping others are woven throughout the book. This book has a little something for every fan of historical fiction - mystery, romance, murder, faith lessons and more!

If you have a Lynn Austin fan on your Christmas shopping list this year, I cannot recommend this book enough. It is fantastic and I give it a HUGE thumbs up!

BUY IT: You can purchase Wonderland Creek at your favorite bookseller, from Bethany House, a division of Baker Publishing Group

The Christmas Shoppe: A Book Review

About The Book:

A strange older woman with scraggly gray hair and jewelry that jangles as she walks, Matilda is certainly not the most likely person to buy the old Barton Building on the town's quaint main street. When it becomes apparent that her new shop doesn't fit the expectations of Parrish Springs residents, a brouhaha erupts. After all, Christmas is approaching, and the last thing the town needs is a junky shop run by someone who looks and acts like a gypsy. But as townsfolk venture into the strange store, they discover that old memories can bring new life and healing.

Once again, Melody Carlson delivers a Christmas story that will touch hearts and delight the senses. Sure to be a classic, The Christmas Shoppe is filled with the special magic the best Christmas stories share—that intangible mixture of nostalgia, joy, and a little bit of magic.

You can read an excerpt of The Christmas Shoppe here, in PDF format.

Melody was nominated for a Romantic Times Career Achievement Award in the inspirational market for her books in 2010 and 2011. She and her husband live in central Oregon. My Review:

I have been reading Melody Carlson books for some time now and have always enjoyed them. Last year, I had the opportunity to review The Christmas Dog and Christmas at Harrington's, both of which are beautiful, quick reads, perfect for a weekend read with your favorite cup of tea. This year, Carlton has released another delightful Christmas themed book, in The Christmas Shoppe. With quirky, and endearing characters, you will be drawn into the drama of small town living from the very first pages. I love that this is another quick read, and perfect for ages young adult and up. Another great book to add to my Christmas reading library. I would love to see Carlson develop some of the characters and storylines further in future books, as well as develop The Christmas Shoppe into a movie, but only time will tell if that occurs.

With themes of forgiveness, letting go of the past, and realizing that God has a purpose in everything, you will love this delightful little read. I know I did, and cannot wait to read more from Melody Carlson in the future.

I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up!

Lost Melody: A Book Review and Giveaway

About The Book:

Even as Jill King wrestles with the death of her dream of becoming a concert pianist, another dream rises in its place. It is one that Jill never sought. A dream that will not let her go. One that will force her to choose between the man she loves and the fate of an entire community.

The beautiful piano sitting in the corner of Jill King’s apartment begs to be played. For over a year, it has sat untouched, ever since a terrible accident shattered Jill’s ambition of becoming a concert pianist. The ragged scar on her left hand is a cruel and constant reminder of the death of her dream. But another dream is about to come to life—an unexpected, horrifying dream that will present Jill with a responsibility she never wanted. And choices she never wanted to make. Hundreds of lives depend on Jill’s willingness to warn her small, oceanside town in Nova Scotia of a nameless, looming disaster. But doing so could cost Jill her reputation, jeopardize the political career of the man she loves, and ruin their plans for a future together. The fate of an entire community hangs in the balance as Jill wrestles with the cost of heeding one still, small voice.

You can read an excerpt of Lost Melody here, in PDF Format

My Review:

With incredibly deep characters dealing with overcoming injury, and career changes, Lost Melody with catch your attention and keep it to the very last pages. I really love the underlying theme that God will use everything in our lives to do good and takes even the most difficult times and teach us lessons through them. Another fantastic theme is that with God's help we can overcome our fears, whatever they are. Each characters has their good points and their quirks, but all are extremely well developed, as is the storyline. I really enjoyed the writing duo of Copeland and Smith and hope they write again soon in the future, as I would love to read more from them.

I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up!

My Review:
Although I am a the parent of two little girls, I have several preschool age boys in my family child care program. So whenever I get the opportunity to review "boy toys" I jump at it. The Transformers Rescue Bots Playskool Fire Station Prime has provided hours of play for both boys and girls in my home, and will allow your child's imagination to soar as they role play Transformers and Rescue Heroes. The Fire House itself is very well constructed, comes with all the props you need to start out with and I love that it is so portable. It is also very adaptable to using other toy car products with it, as well as the smaller sized transformers and dolls (like Fisher Price Little People).
