Downfall: A Book Review and GIVEAWAY!

About The Book:

Despite Emily Covington’s sobriety, she can’t escape her past. Her years of active drug addiction have made her the scapegoat for everything, including a murder. Now she has to identify the real killer to clear her name and protect her family. From the explosive first pages, Terri Blackstock rockets the suspense level to new heights in Downfall, the third book in the bestselling, award-winning Intervention Series.

Emily Covington has turned her life around after a drug addiction, but her family still has trouble trusting her. Though Emily has committed herself to a year-long treatment program and has been sober for almost a year beyond that, even her mother walks on eggshells around her, fearing she’ll relapse. After her behavior during her drug years, Emily realizes she has a lot to prove.

When police discover a homemade bomb under Emily’s car, and she then learns the wife of one of her friends was murdered that same morning, she knows things are deadly serious.

But who wants Emily dead? And why?

A conversation she had with two men, an Alfred Hitchcock movie, and a plan for a double murder all conspire for one explosive ride ... and Emily is the only one who can identify the killer and save the life of the next potential victim.

As she frantically works to solve this ever more complicated puzzle, Emily finds herself playing right into the killer’s hands.

My Review:

Terri Blackstock has been one of my favorite authors of the Christian mystery/crime genre for a while now, and her most recent series, Intervention, has been fantastic. Recently, I had the chance to read the final book of the series, Downfall, and am very excited to share my thoughts about it.

Downfall again looks at the life of Emily Covington as she has turned away from a life of drugs. But someone doesn't want her to succeed. In fact, the antagonist of the book, does everything they can to thwart her efforts to remain sober. With each page turned you will be drawn in and experience twist and turns as you read. The characters are all well-developed and I especially liked Emily and Lance. But the character that was my absolute favorite was Emily's mother, and the journey she took, as she prayed for her daughter through her struggles, and as hard as it was to not to step in, she didn't. It is an journey that far too many parents take, but the saving grace is that God is on her side guiding both Barbara and Emily through the journey.

The writing is fast-paced and flows very nicely as well. As difficult of a subject that drug use/abuse is, it is one that is dealt with daily by many people. Obviously a lot of research was completed to make this book as real as possible, and as I checked out Terri Blackstock's official website, I discovered that the Intervention series was inspired by her struggle as a parent of a child who struggled through drug abuse. Very inspiring to be sure.

I am sad to see this series come to an
