Boldly redefined by their best-selling Born Again record, its three No. 1 radio hits, and a headlining slot on the world’s biggest tour first quarter 2011 (playing to more than half a million people), Newsboys released November 15, 2011 with their highly anticipated CD, God’s Not Dead. This rock-driven worship album finds front man Michael Tait and his band mates who’ve played together for nearly two decades – Jeff Frankenstein (keys), Duncan Phillips (drums), and Jody Davis (guitar) –with some of today’s most widely church-embraced modern worship anthems as well as several original and never-before-released worship songs written by some of today’s biggest worship songwriters.
This GRAMMY®-nominated and Dove Award-winning band has sold over 7 million units, garnered five Gold albums and 28 #1 hits. With last year’s release of Born Again, its first week out was the largest street week of their careers by selling an astounding 45,311 units and hitting #4 on Billboard‘s overall chart, charting above new releases from such artists as Sting, Justin Bieber and M.I.A. Its self-titled single topped the charts for 8 weeks, gaining close to eight million impressions to date.
The band is currently headlining their 60+city nationwide “God’s Not Dead Tour.” For more information about the band and the tour, please visit www.newsboys.com
First off, I need to say that I have been a fan of Newsboys basically since the beginning, with hits like "Shine" and "I'm Not Ashamed" among my favorites. Newsboys has been a long time staple in the Christian music scene (almost 20 years), and I was really excited to review their most recently release, God's Not Dead.
Through the years, there have been a few lineup changes, most recently with Peter Furler departing the band, and Michael Tait (from DCTalk) joining in 2009. I love Michael Tait and think that he has been an awesome addition to the band.
All the tracks on God's Not Dead have a definite Newsboys feel, but I absolutely love the distinct sound that Michael Tait brings to each song. My favorites on the CD are the title track, and Mighty To Save, while my husband really loved The King is Coming and Savior of the World. This is a Rock Worship CD, and I really enjoyed the interpretations that Newsboys had for many well-known songs like Revelation Song (made popular by Philips, Craig and Dean for comparison). This CD is a true witness that God is alive and well in this world and loves us, and wants us all in His loving arms!
If you are a Newsboys fan, or know someone who is, this is definitely one CD you will want to add to your collection for sure.
BUY IT: You can purchase God's Not Dead from the Newsboys at your favorite Christian retailer, from Inpop.
