The Ben Ripple: A Book Review

About The Book:

On August 12, 2008, Lisa Elliott received the phone call that changed her life forever.  It was from her husband, David, on his way to the hospital emergency room with their 18-year-old son Ben. He was subsequently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.  After a one year and one week valiant battle, Ben was promoted to his heavenly home. Throughout his battle with this disease, Ben’s Christ-like attitude became an inspiration for thousands around the world who followed updates Lisa posted on a Facebook blog entitled, “Prayer for Benjamin Elliott”. It was appropriately re-titled, “The Ben Ripple” upon his death.

This is not just an ordinary “journal”, but a victorious and candid “journey” of one faith-filled mother who sought to use her story for the glory of God through her pain, loss and grief.  It provides validation for those dealing with a family crisis, hope and inspiration for those who are grieving losses, and practical help for those desiring to come alongside those needing comfort.

About The Author:

My Review:

If you are looking for an incredibly inspiring read, and a reminder that our lives do impact others daily, then you need to get yourself a copy of The Ben Ripple. It will change your life and challenge you like never before. I have never lost a child to death so I cannot comprehend what a parent goes through. But I have lost a sibling, and it is heart-wrenching to be sure.

The book includes actual journal entries from Lisa Elliot, that will share with you her most intimate feeling about Ben and his journey through illness. Tears will be shed, so definitely have tissue with you while you read. But there is hope in sorrow, and joy in mourning. The impact that this young man and his family have had around the world are also documented in a wonderful manner in The Ben Ripple. The sheer manner of raw emotion throughout is beautiful, and must be cherished with each word read.

I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up.
