Nowhere But Up: A Book Review

About The Book:

"When you hit rock bottom, you have nowhere to go but up."

In Nowhere but Up, Pattie Mallette shares for the first time in detail about the pain and abandonment she experienced as a child, the sexual abuse she suffered for years, the severe depression she wrestled with as a teen, the deep struggles she faced as a single mom, and the faith she's learned to cling to through dark times. With raw honesty, she spills the truth about a lifetime of moments that were punctuated by pain yet permeated with grace--and the journey that's brought her to where she is today.

It's not just teen moms who struggle or need to find hope. Whether you're a single mom, an addict, or a victim of abuse . . . whether you're on the verge of bankruptcy or the brink of divorce . . . whether you're in a dysfunctional family or the product of a broken home . . . whether you battle depression or struggle with anxiety . . . whether you live in fear or hide in shame . . . whether you've been abandoned, rejected, or ignored--there is hope.
It doesn't matter where you find yourself today--broken, hurting, wounded, or shamed. If God can help me find my way up, I promise, He can do the same for you.

My Review:

If you fan of popular music radio, there is no doubt that you have been exposed to the music of Justin Bieber. As talented as this young man is, there is an amazing woman behind him - his mother, Pattie Mallette. Recently, she released her life story in Nowhere But Up and I just finished reading it.

The book tells of Mallette's journey through sexual abuse, depression, and being a single mom. But Nowhere But Up is more than that, its about the faith journey that she has been on since she was a little girl. With raw honesty, she shows the reader that life is not always roses and sunshine but when we cling to the hope that comes with faith in Jesus Christ, we can thrive despite the most horrible of life experiences.

Her book was very well written and easy to read, flowed nicely and gives you a great glimpse into the early stages of her raising a world wide superstar son. More importantly though, Pattie Mallette shows us that nothing is more important than a genuine relationship with Jesus. It is about putting our faith and trust in a God who knows what we are going through and will guide us through the journey of healing and hope. It might now be an easy journey and we may hit rock bottom more than once, but we are reminded that He is our ultimate Rock we we do hit bottom, each and every time! Kudos to the author for displaying her journey and allowing it to help others. God is using her in many ways to reach hurting men and women, and giving them Hope through His love!

Nowhere But Up will definitely be an encouragement to anyone who has dealt with similar issues as the author. Each journey is different of course, but God is always the same, and will guide each of us, if we ask Him to and trust in Him completely.

I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up!
