When A Woman Overcomes Life's Hurts: A Book Review

About The Book:

Author Cindi McMenamin’s bestseller When Women Walk Alone (more than 100,000 copies sold) confirms her gift for encouraging women who are journeying through difficult seasons. In her newest book, she offers help for women who are dealing with wounds from unresolved issues in their past.
When a Woman Overcomes Life’s Hurts explores the kinds of hurt women experience and offers gracious, biblical counsel on how and where to find healing. Cindi shares the faulty thinking that often accompanies life’s wounds and replaces it with truths every woman needs to know about how God views her. She takes women from
  • feeling insignificant to realizing how much the Lord loves them
  • feeling undesirable to seeing their true beauty
  • feeling they’re not good enough to recognizing how special they are
This is a book filled with grace, redemption, and transformation—leading women toward a renewed focus on God, a resurgence of inner joy, and better relationships with others.

My Review:
There is a not a woman reading this review who has not had to overcome a difficult time in their life. It does not matter what the hardship is/was, we have all been there and done that. Each of us deals with hurts differently but ultimately to overcome them, we need Jesus Christ to guide us. In the book, When A Woman Overcome Life's Hurts, author Cindi McMenamin shares ten steps toward healing and wholeness. The steps are as follows:
1. Realize there's a reason - and a purpose - behind your pain.
2. Reshape your understanding of God through the scriptures
3. Reject the lie that God doesn't care about the hurt you've experienced
4. Re-examine - and receive - the healing power of Jesus' death for you on the cross
5. Renew your mind to think differently.
6. Relinquish your right to yourself.
7. Recognize the difference between real and distorted love.
8. Release your offender - and yourself - through forgiveness.
9. Refresh your soul by praising God in your pain
10. Reinvest in the lives of others.
The book is formatted so that each chapter covers one of the ten steps, with eight to ten pages of reading then some self evaluation questions at the end. Also included are three valuable appendixes, a self assessment that will help you to determine whether you are still affected by your wounds, scriptural encouragement for hurting souls and a guide for using the book in a small group or Bible study setting.
The book is very easy to read, and though the subject matter is at times difficult, there is much sensitivity on the author's part that readers of this book will each be on their own journey of recovering from hurts. The ultimate goal of the book is to teach women that there is healing and hope despite hurt and that God will be there in the journey and be our Rock to stand on.
This is a book that all Women's Ministry staff and counsellors should possess in their libraries and one that needs to also be read by pastoral staff of all churches.
I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up!
