First, we participated in putting together four shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, through Samaritan's Purse. Together as a family we went to our local dollar store and each of us picked toys, simple school supplies and other goodies, all that will put smiles on children somewhere around the world this Christmas! It was a lot of fun, and I hope we will make this one of our annual Christmas traditions.
Secondly, we have decided that instead of purchasing gifts for our parents, we instead donate to a charity that they hold dear to them. This year, we are supporting Southern Alberta Bible Camp in Lomond, Alberta, Siloam Mission in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Make-A-Wish Foundation Canada (in memory of two siblings that had been granted wishes in 2009).
Finally, another way that we are giving back this holiday season is helping out at our local school to collect items for our local food bank, who will then prepare a hamper for a local family.
Kinder Canada is sharing the story of The Martin Family, who were blessed by the resources at McMaster Children's Hospital during their daughter's illness, available due in part to Children's Miracle Network. You can see the video here on Facebook! And with each share of the video through Facebook, Kinder Canada will donate $1 to The Children's Miracle Network on your behalf! What a great way to give back!
You can also have a chance to try out Kinder Canada's newest treat, the Mini-Egg, by checking out the Facebook page at noon each day until December 7th, to receive a coupon for a free bag! Be aware though, these contain hazelnut, so unlike the Kinder Surprise Eggs, these are NOT nut-free (just in case you need to be aware of this!)
Here is my question to you: What are you doing this Christmas to give back, either as an individual or as a family? I would love to hear your responses in the comments section!
