It was the last run of their first day on the slopes, the beginning of another great family vacation for Todd and Tara Storch and their three children. But when thirteen-year-old Taylor’s life was tragically cut short in a skiing accident, the Storches were overcome by the devastating loss of their daughter. Still in shock, they were asked a question no parents ever think they will hear: “Would you be willing to donate Taylor’s organs?”
Their answer would change their family’s lives forever and provide comfort during their darkest moments. It would also save the lives of five desperate people anxiously waiting for a heart, a liver, a cornea, a pancreas, and a kidney.
Taylor’s death could have destroyed the Storches-and in some ways it almost did. Instead, her gift of life brought them strength, knowing her heart was continuing to beat. Taylor’s Gift is more than Taylor’s story, or even Todd and Tara’s story. It’s the story of a nurse who can now be an active mom and fully present for her kids, a cowboy who now has the strength and ability to give back to the community, a biker who can now give of himself completely, and a teenager who can now see her future for the first time.
It’s a story of finding strength in God and creating good even in the darkest times.
It’s a story of hope. Todd Storch is a successful consultant, public speaker, and community leader. After the death of his daughter, he began to pursue his new God-given mission to promote organ donation. Todd is cofounder and president of Taylor’s Gift Foundation, where he and his wife, Tara, work tirelessly to help those who have been touched by organ donation. Todd is honored to lead the foundation that has helped contribute to the registration of millions of new organ donors and is still changing the conversation about organ donation.

In the last couple of years I have known a couple of people that lost a child through illnesses, stillbirth, or miscarriage. My two younger sisters were two of these children. As well, my husband lost his brother in an accident when they were young. It has been quite a journey to watch a parent grieve the loss of a child, and I know that would one of the hardest things I would ever do. However, I know that if I ever do face this journey, God will be with us each step of the way, as He has been for friends and family and as he has been with the Storch family.
I had the opportunity to read, and now review, the recounting of the death of Tara and Todd's daughter, Taylor, in Taylor's Gift, and the hope that has resulted in this tragedy.
The book is one that you will cry through, and yet be so encouraged as you follow the Storch family through Taylor's accident, death and the choices the family had to make regarding organ donation. It is a raw, honest, heart-breaking read and at times I needed to put my book down due to crying so hard. Yet, with each word read there was the family's obvious love for the Lord and their hope through grief shone through. Also, it was an amazing reminder that God was there through the grief of death, and the joy of sharing life through organ donation.
I know that as difficult as it was for my parent's to say goodbye to my sister, Carla, last year, there is hope in knowing that another person gets to see for the first time due to the gift of new cornea's. Hope through pain, surrounded by strength from God, and support from friends and family, is what got my family through our most difficult times and what moved Todd and Tara through theirs.
Organ donation is obviously one of the main focuses of Taylor's Gift, as the family was able to save the lives of five people because of their selfless choice to donate Taylor's organs after her death. But this book is so much more than a journey through grief and organ donation. It's about outliving our lives for others, plain and simple!
Courage, grace, strength and sacrifice are all amazing attributes seen in the lives of the Storch family, and through any person that has chosen to be an organ donor. Now the challenge comes, have you, or your loved ones, made that choice?
A thought-provoking book full of hope that needs to be read by all!
I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up!
