Understanding Biblical Womanhood through the Lens of the Gospel
Many Christian books written to women claim to present God's good instructions for their lives. Some expound on the value of marriage and children. Many extol the virtues of the Proverbs 31 wife. A good number teach the value of love, submission, and respect in Christian marriages. Though this book deals with these topics, The Gospel-Centered Woman addresses women from an entirely different perspective. The most important part of the Bible's instructions to women center around the gospel. Jesus' life, death, and resurrection brought about a seismic shift in our understanding of Scripture. After His resurrection, His disciples understood words written thousands of years before with a clarity they never had previously. The good news of Christ illuminates all other Scripture, including instructions to women.
Wendy Alsup is a wife, mom, and math teacher. She is the author of "Practical Theology for Women: How Knowing God Makes a Difference in Our Daily Lives" and "By His Wounds You are Healed: How the Message of Ephesians Transforms a Woman's Identity".

First things first, I have been reading Wendy Alsup's blog, Theology For Women, for a while now, and always find it thought-provoking, challenging and encouraging. So when I had the opportunity to be a part of a blog tour/review for her most recent release, The Gospel Centered Woman, I knew I could not turn it down.
The book will draw you in from the very first pages, and with a tone that feels like you are in a small group study with the author, you will truly learn the relationship between Biblical womanhood and the Gospel. Often when one hears the word, Biblical Womanhood, the first thing that comes to mind (at least for me, and several people I know) is submission in marriage, being a Godly parent and so forth. However, it is so much more than that, and Alsup delivers a clear message throughout her book that Biblical Womanhood is for ALL woman!
With personal stories, lots of scripture references and many though-provoking reflection questions, you will develop a clearer understanding of Biblical Womanhood than ever before. This would be an ideal study for both individuals and in small group sessions. It is one that I hope to use with a group of women in the future. She speaks with a rawness and clarity that was quite refreshing and was not, in my opinion, typical of a woman author! I loved that however, as it truly did challenge me! She tackled several theological question head on, without skirting the issues, but truly helping the reader understand them. That is not something you see everyday with female authors, and it was truly a breath of fresh air.
It's definitely a quick read and easy read, but I will be going back to dig deep through it in the coming months to be sure!
I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up!
