Becoming Myself: A Book Review

About The Book:

Becoming Myself is a hope-filled book for anyone who wonders if her life will ever change - if she will ever change. In Stasi Eldredge's most intimate book yet, she shares her own struggles with self-worth, addiction, and her past as she shows readers how God is faithfully bringing us to a life of freedom and wholeness.

God desires to restore us, and he is able to restore us - the real us. As he heals our inner life he calls us to "rise to the occasion" of our lives. The most important journey any woman can take is the one into becoming her true self through the love of God. It's a beautiful paradox: the more God's you become, the more yourself you become - the woman he had in mind when he thought of you before the creation of the world.

About The Author:

A teacher and conference speaker, Stasi Eldredge leads the women's ministry of Ransomed Heart, a ministry devoted to helping people discover the heart of God. She is the coauthor of Captivating and Love & War with her husband, John. Her books have sold nearly 3 million copies.

Stasi loves the joy and freedom that comes from knowing Jesus and longs to see others come to know Him more deeply. She also loves getting lost in a good novel; walking in the woods near her home in Colorado Springs; and sharing life with her family, her friends, and her God.

My Review:

I have been a fan of John and Stasi Eldredge for a number of years, so when I had the opportunity to read Stasi Eldredge's new release, Becoming Myself, I quickly said yes. I am so glad I did.

The book is very well written, full of scripture reference, theologically sound and full of personal stories from the author that allows us, as readers, to realize that she is just like us. Our lives are beautiful messes that only God can clean up and transform us. She shows us that our identity is in Christ alone, and that we need to stop looking at ourselves the way the world does, and start doing so through God's eyes. Our self worth needs to be fully in Christ, and while that is sometimes so difficult in this day of self centeredness, it is absolutely necessary and Stasi walks us through what that process looks like.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was encouraged and challenged as I read it. Next, I hope to get the study guide/Bible study that is also available and work through it soon.

I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up.
