When A Woman Finds Her Voice: A Book Review

About The Book:

What happens when brokenness stains our spirits, when the hurts of life linger?
Secret or unresolved hurts leak into our everyday lives, filtering into everything we think we know about who we are. We tend to question our value and meaning. We feel unimportant, incapable, "less-than" or "not good enough."

So we put on our false faces, the "life-is-just-fine" masks, while we bury ourselves in family, career, and service to others. And we fall silent. But that's not God's plan.
In When A Woman Finds Her Voice, author Jo Ann Fore engages your heart and mind as one who knows your fears and frustrations. As a certified life coach, she unpacks a message of hope and freedom with a gentle boldness that can only come from one who has walked the journey.

With straight talk, insightful biblical truths, and heart-aching stories of hope, Jo Ann leads you on the unparalleled adventure of finding your voice and using it to make a difference. Jo Ann helps you find healing, then leads you to help others do the same. You will learn how to overcome life's hurts. You will be moved to share the stories you’ve been hesitant to share—those healing stories that have the power to change both your life and the lives of others.

My Review:

When I read a book that uses the author's personal journey as a backdrop, I often find it a very difficult book to read. Reason being, I often find nuggets of truth that open my eyes within my own life journey. There have been a number of books that have truly changed my life because of reading others' experiences and When A Woman Finds Her Voice was one of them.

The very first thing I have to say is that this was not an easy book to read. Typically a non-fiction book will only take me a few days to read, but that was not the case for this book. And that is not a criticism at all. It was a very good thing. With a transparency and vulnerability I haven't seen in sometime, Fore, shows you that everyone woman can ultimately find their voice, overcome their past hurts and grow to be the woman God wants us to truly become. But we have to peel back the layers and allow God to heal us but being willing to accept what's happened and see the learning that comes from even the hard stuff of life. When we do so, not only do we heal, in God's time, but we often end up helping others when we don't even realize it.
Through Jo Ann's personal experiences, the women's stories that are told throughout the books, the scriptures, and amazing questions found within each chapter, I realized that I am not defined by my past nor should I be held hostage by it. I know to whom I belong and it is only because of Him that I have accepted the past, granted forgiveness and am a better person today because of the tough times. I am very grateful for the Jo Ann Fore and her book, and I know she will be an amazing blessing to all those who read When A Woman Finds Her Voice.

If you are interested she is going to be hosting an online study of her book starting November 18, 2013 and its FREE! (all you need is a copy of this life-changing book!)

If you are struggling with past hurts and finding your voice because of it, I highly recommend this book! You will cry, laugh, be angry and wonder if it's worth it to read but trust me, it so is!
