Defuse: A Book Review

About The Book:

In this timely survival guide, positive mom Karol Ladd offers practical steps to help mothers identify hidden anger in their own lives and in the lives of each member of their family. When tempers flare they need to know how to respond quickly to defuse the situation and to, instead, create a more loving atmosphere where anger has no place. The discussion focuses on three important steps:
  • Recognize and Deal with Your Anger
  • Learn How to Respond to Their Anger
  • Create an Enviornment Where Love Abounds
With anger being a major issue in every home, Karol's positive plan offers vital solutions that will not only deactivate anger but strengthen the bonds of love.

My Review:
As any mom knows, sometimes it is so easy to get angry with our children, even for the littlest things like a drink spill, or toys all over the place. While we know we should not get angry, sometimes it seems that seems to be the only way to deal with our frustration in the moment. Over the last couple years I have read a couple of fantastic books that help moms and women with their anger and this is another great book to add to the list.
I love that author Karol Ladd guides the reader and encourages us with each word read. We know that frustration will come with being a mom and she reminds us of that. But she also gives the reader a great group of tools to move us from yelling, frustration and anger to being a graced-based parent full of love and forgiveness when necessary.
The book is organized in a great way, first allowing the reader to recognize and deal with their anger as a mom, then secondly deal with a child's anger. Finally, you will be guided to create an environment that oozes love! Although a lot of the ideas were ones I had read in other books, or in early childhood education workshops, I thoroughly loved the reminders and even the new tips I got through the book. The book included many personal stories and tips, as well as scripture references that will bring you to God's word when you need to in your anger moment! Finally, each chapter gives reflection questions so you can dig deeper into the role of anger for a mom.
I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up!
