Mom Seeks God: A Blog Tour and Review

About The Book:

The first months and years of motherhood can be the most challenging and disorienting of your life—and faith. When you’re surrounded by the happy chaos of children, how do you spend quiet time with God if the only quiet time you get is while you sleep? How can you demonstrate a solid spiritual life to your children if you don’t have time to pursue one yourself?
When Julia Roller discovered that her spiritual growth had been stunted by the busyness of life with her toddler, she embarked on a yearlong journey through ten spiritual disciplines: prayer, fellowship, submission, study, simplicity, silence, worship, fasting, service, and celebration. As she focused on each discipline, she discovered practical ways to observe them—even in the chaos of her every day.

My Review:
It is very ironic that I had the opportunity to review Mom Seeks God by Juila Roller! For the last couple of years, right before the New Year starts, I always pray about a word that I will focus on throughout the upcoming year. A word that will encompass my whole life, and allow me to grow and redefine myself as a woman of God. This year my word is "discipline" and one of the books that I am using to help me is Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster, who happens to write the foreward of this book!
I had first read Celebration of Discipline back in Bible College but knew it would be one that I needed to pull out and read again. As I began to read Julia's book, I was struck by how applicable to motherhood she made Foster's book become. I began to read his book in a totally different way. And that is a great thing!
Mom Seeks God is well-written and engages you from the very beginning. Julia Roller is a mom and knows how hard it is sometimes to make the time to be with God on a daily basis. But she also reminds the reader how important it is to do it. There was no condemnation or guilt that come from Roller's writing, so simply gives practical tips and idea, with using her life and Celebration of Discipline as a reference to help women thrive in their journey with Jesus. Each chapter has an ending section entitled, "Non Expert Tips For..." (whatever the chapter topic is) and they are practical, easy to implement and will take no time doing, yet are life changing! This book was FANTASTIC, challenging and inspiring all in one read! While I have been a mom for seven and a half years now, I gleamed many new ideas from this book and am so inspired to be a better mom after God's own heart, thanks in part to this book.
I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up!
