The Irresistible Community: A Book Review

About The Book:

Build community the way Jesus did
We all want a place where our stories matter, our voices are heard, our uniqueness is celebrated, our failures are embraced, and our hopes are unleashed. That kind of deep, life-changing community is found in fellowship with Jesus and was modeled perfectly by him and the ragged bunch of disciples with whom he chose to spend his time. But how can we create it in our lives?

Using the relationship of Jesus to his disciples in the upper room, Bill Donahue presents a simple but compelling approach to community life. Using a table, a towel, and the truth, Jesus created an "irresistible community" where everyone found a place to belong, lived fully in the truth, and served others with joy. Donahue shows you just how to apply Jesus's lessons to your own community--with life-changing results.

My Review:

Community. What does that word mean to you? Well this is exactly what author and professor Bill Donahue strives to define in his book, The Irresistible Community. One can not live in this world without community. Well, one could try but it likely would have very adverse endings. And just as we need community to survive in our day to day living, we also need it for our spiritual lives. If there is no true community in our churches, then is a church truly a God-loving and doctrinally sound church? According to this book, no. Community is a must have for a Christian to truly live out the command of Christ to "love one another". And its not just about meeting weekly in a building. Its about making meals, driving people to appointments and so much more. This book gave me some really big wake up calls about what it truly means to live in community. He quoted from some of my favorite people like Bonhoeffer, Lewis and more. The book was very easy to read, and my attention was kepts throughout the entire reading of it. It is full of biblical truth and perfect for building His kingdom, not ours.

I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up!
