The Original Jesus: A Book Review
From hit songs to bumper stickers to football eye-black, Jesus is trending high wherever you look. But at the end of the day, many "try Jesus" and come away disappointed in the experience. That's because the Jesus of popular culture looks much more like than the God-man who appeared in the flesh two thousand years ago. We've developed plenty of imposter Jesuses that feed into our selfish desires--Guru Jesus, Braveheart Jesus, Dr. Phil Jesus, Free-Range Jesus. The problem is, they don't have the power to save us or transform us into new creations.
calls us back to the Jesus who demands our worship--the potter who molds us, the clay. Seekers, skeptics, and sojourners in the way of faith will see Jesus for who he really is: God in the flesh, calling us to surrender our very lives that we may truly live.

When you think of Jesus, how do you do it? Do you try to make Him fit an image that the world wants or what the Bible truly says He is? That is exactly what Daniel Darling strives out to do in his book, The Original Jesus. It was the first time I had been introduced to his writing and I am glad to been give that opportunity.
As the book unfolds, Darling identifies these types of Jesus:
Dr. Phil Jesus
He then writes in a way that disproves each and brings us back to exactly how Jesus wants us to see Him. To worship Him and Him alone. Not to make Jesus into something, rather, someone who will take care of our causes. He is the redeemer of the world and we should be showing the respect that deserves not the nonchalantness that we more often than not do.
The style with with Darling writes was great, the book was very easy to read, full of insight and I felt almost conversational is style. I read through it quickly but it will be one that I will go back and read again to digest everything the author had to say.
I recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up!
