The Reckless Love of God: A Book Review

About The Book:

Does God Really Love Me
Sometimes the bigger something is, the easier it is to forget. You may have heard all your life that God is love, but has the truth of that statement really sunk in?

In The Reckless Love of God, pastor and church planter Alex Early pulls you in close to ask if you've ever really considered what it means to say "Jesus loves me." God's love for us is real--he feels, knows, and even suffers on our behalf. Nothing will change your life, your goals, and your relationships faster than being captivated by this reality.

Whether you grew up as a Christian and have forgotten this essential truth, or if you're hearing it for the first time, you need to be reminded--and assured--of the simple, amazing, mind-blowing fact that God loves us.

My Review:

God is love.

If you have been a believer for any length of time, you have heard that phrase many, many times. But do we truly know and understand this term and how it impacts us as believers of Jesus Christ? Do we remember that His love is the same, whether good and bad times, whether we are in a valley or the closest we have ever been to Him in our lives.

Alex Early does a fantastic manner of sharing his thoughts on this top, using strong scriptural references and personal stories. While the book is short in size at only 178 pages, it is not quick to read. There is much to digest and while I have read it once through for this review, I will absolutely be going back through this book again in the near future.

Here are some of my favorite quotes:

-If Jesus loved these flawed me, you can trust that He can and does love you (p. 103)

-God often times does not give me answers to my questions. Rather, He gives me Himself. (p. 85)

-When Jesus looks at you, both in your greatest strength and most profound weaknesses, his gut wrenches with love (p. 59)

-Jesus did not come to make a few minor adjustments to people's morality. He came to turn the world upside down (p. 124)

-The cross is God's glorifying rescue mission that says, "Since you cannot and will not come to me, I am coming to you because I love you" (p.135)

-Christians who are on mission to see unbelievers see and savor the reckless love of God are constantly interpreting three things: Scripture, culture, and oneself. (p. 161)

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Reckless Love of God and can't wait to dig deeper into the book in the coming months.

I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up!
