Finding God In The Ruins: A Book Review

About The Book:

If God is love, why do we hurt so much?
When the reality of your pain doesn’t line up with what you’ve been taught in church, then what? While many abandon their faith or embrace hopelessness, it is possible to discover the God who heals your heart in the midst of the pain.
Matt Bays has been where you are. His unforgettable stories of loss and healing will usher you into a life where gratitude overpowers anger, hope overcomes despair, and hunger for God replaces indifference to God. With a fresh and original writing style, Bays demonstrates that true redemption is far more powerful than the temporary fixes of sanitized Christianity.

About The Author:
Matt Bays is a writer, speaker, and musician with a passion to call people out of their hiding places. In ministry for twenty years, he and his wife, Heather, live in Indianapolis with their fun-loving and insightful teenage daughters.
My Review:
Pain. Dealing with the trials of life, either in our personal lives or being confronted by the atrocities of the world, is not easy. It is something that all of us have dealt with in our lives. Whether pain from loss of live, job, church and so much. Matt Bays writes in a conversational manner, is so very raw, and you will cry and laugh at many times in the book. He writes in such a way that we realize that we are never alone in our walk through pain. God is there with us always. Even when we cannot understand the why of pain, don't want to accep the pain, and question our faith as we journey through the pain, we are not separate from the Lord who carries us through. Having gone through cancer, infertility (now blessed with two children), a major marriage crisis, and the loss of many loved ones, there has been some many times to question God. And believe me, I have. But this book has helped me wrestle through my questions and reminded me that God redeems pain, and allows it to bring glory to Him. This book needs to be read by anyone who is questioning the purpose of pain. A very good read, but difficult read, that I highly recommend.

  1. Thank you, Shirely. And thanks also for passing my book along to whoever you know who is hanging on to their faith by a thread...or has lost it altogether. Peace and love!
